No way!

Guys i know that the thruxtons are not made for street racing but hear this one and tell me your opinion...I was coming back from my village today(where i was for vacation with my bike)and by the time i left the village a v-strom1000 was following me all the way to Athens...it was night and after the mountainous areas and roads we got to the highway(finally)and i say finally cause i knew this would be the time for me to back-off and let the v-strom finally overtake me cause of its higher speed. But as i was giving him room to overtake he was still there after 300 meters waitingfor me to overtake him again(i know i have a great bike...)and he continues this story for half an hour or something!i got so tired he really made me angry(i just wanted to lose him of my sight).so i decided to open the throttle all the way as the road was empty....i have to say that my thruxton is pretty stock with nothing special on it!i finally see the speedo doing speeds at about 130 miles or something(i just could not believe it)i know that the top speed of the thruxton is about 120mph.and not only this, the speedo kept going down to 140!hardly but it really was there!i don't know if it was true but i really knew i was going pretty fast because the v strom behind me was struggling to overtake me. i say no way and i close the throttle.i cannot believe that my thruxton gone with 140 miles stock.can someone explain this to me ?does anyone get this type of readings on his speedo on a stock thruxton?

I don't believe it either.

A vstrom 650 would smoke your thruxton, the 1000 would absolutely destroy it.

Was there a local pub in said "village"?

nope, a 650 would smoke it too. I ride with 2 guys that own STOCK sv650s, same engine/frame as the Vstrom 650, and they will smoke a stock Thruxton. Hell, I have a 904 kit, HSR 42mm Mikuni flatsides, headwork, pipes, etc etc etc and I can just barely keep up with a STOCK 2006 sv650 in a drag race. We're neck and neck.

the sv650 (or vstrom 650) weighs ~100 lbs lighter than the bonnie and makes 70hp stock. Smoked.

And NO WAY 140, maybe 120, maybe 115.

there is now way you were doing 140mph on a thruxton! kilometers per hour yes, but mph no way, especially if it's stock. i've hit 115 on my speedo (and keep in mind these speedos are consistently 5mph off) with the mods i have listed in my signature, which isn't stock and the bike MAYBE only had a little more left in it. unless you were hauling a$$ down a 45 degree incline and already were going at a fast clip you ain't hitting 140mph my friend, indicated or not!

Yeah, no way 140... I've gotten mine to 105 on the speedo, there wasn't much more room for it to speed up, the GPS told me it was more like 93.... even if your speedo was reading 140 (which would indicate it is broken, IMO), then you were probably doing around 100 flat max... especially if you backed off before you peaked.

just no way...
