Cool Question about front signals, and Howdy from Texas!

First off, Howdy!

I am new here, but "lurked" a long while. I bought my 05 Thrux last week. My question is that the man I purchased it from had put on aftermarket square turn signals on the front and rear, made by EMGO, available from British Customs and South Bay Triumph of CA.

Mine also has the rear fender removal kit, TOR pipes, and the 4 new signals.

Ok. So I love the bike, but I notice that it has not been inspected in 3 years.... And I notice that the front blinkers do work, but only as blinkers- they do not stay on as running lites though.

So, a friend said that the front ones are 3 wire signals and the former owner probablt put on 2 wire signals by accident. But this is not the case. He included the original front signals with the bike sale ( wow, they seem huge!) and they are, (the original signals): low and behold, 2 wire signals.

So what do I check now? Or what does it sound like to you?

Thanks!

Congrats on the purchase. The signals do not need to remain on, only blink. If front and rear blink when you use the turn signal, your good to go.

If they don't, you can remove them and get your inspection. Turn signals are not required for inspection, but if they are installed they must work.

Thanks Whoa.

I did not know that.

I guess I thought they were supposed to be on as running lites unless I was blinking for a turn. At least thats how they are all on previous Hondas and Suzukis I have owned.

I am loving it. I have been wantin g a Thrux for years. I will post some pics asap.

I do wish it was a smidge "bigger" overall. I feel too big on it, lol. Also, I was looking at it sitting next to some crotch rockets at work. I know it looks great, but does seem "small" sometimes whencomparing it to other bikes. Guess thats part of what makes it a cafe racer though.

I had my Thrux inspected about 2 months ago. The dude there told me that I MUST have turn signals, both front and rear. I tried a another shop and they told me the same thing. I was under the impression that we didn't need them, but I guess I'm wrong.

How do the stripped down Honda-Davidsons get away with it?

State by State I believe. If it's stock it should be there for most inspections in most States as I understand it. Just make friends at a local garage.

Brian,

The 3 wire indicators are dual element: hi & lo beam. The high (or bright) element is for your turn signal and the low (dimmer) element is for running lamps.

Simply test the wires directly to the battery to find your high beam +12VDC wire and just ignore the low beam wire. Unless you do want to run the turn signals as running lights. Then hook up the low beam +12VDC wire to the headlight circuit. The solid black wire is typically ground.

Howdy howdy! Congrats on the bike! Nah we don't need running turn signals here in tejas, just working ones from what I understand. I'm in agreement with redninja All us houston area thruxtoners should take a ride!

Yeah, I think in Texas they are required by law, not sure though. Will check.

Are any of you other Houston guys in the Brit Riders/Owners of Houston club? I was thinking of checking them out, plus the ROT ralley is in like 3 or 4 weeks.

Thanks for the warm welcome!!!

Mike, thanks for the tip. I will try to see what you suggested. I would love for the fron ones at least to be run/turn indicators.

Besides going to red lenses, dont I need a Kuryakin (sp?) harness thing to make the rear into run/turn/brake lites? Or can someone (like a local shop) turn some red lensed signal housings inbto rear run/turn brake lites like you described by doing something similar?
