Jenny Craig (Thrux weight loss program)
Just a bit of fun here ,but what can a Thruxton owner do to shed some weight off of his bike ?
Other than my wife's suggestion to lose 25lbs what other "MODS" are we able to do ?
I ditched my chain guard ,Funky front reflectors ,and stock mirrors (went with a left side only CRG Lane Splitter)

Ive also been on the same quest. I often think "what can I make lighter without sacrificing strength, durablity and safety", for that matter. I ditched the passenger foot pegs, stock mirrors and the AI ( I know its not much but it had to go any how) Ive been thinking about going to a lighter set of mufflers; have the TORs now. As for my chain guard, I kept it. I sanded it down to bare metal and clear coated it to match the engine covers. Thought about drilling some holes in it though, along with the sprocket guard. I also have and idea brewing for a fender eliminator kit of my own. Will post pics of that when it is done. Her dry weight is 450 lbs, I think 425 would be a good number to shoot for. I know 25 lbs is alot but its easier than me losing 25 lbs I'll tell ya that much. Hey look at it this way, its easier to tell your bike she need to drop some pounds, than your significant other. At least the the bike wont punch you in the mouth.

Going to mess around with the Airbox ,and rear fender this winter. The AI is next on my list.

Cut some of the frame over the rear, cut exhaust/passenger foot rest triangle, lose airbox/rear fender, drop counter weights, replace wheels/hubs, drop instrument cluster, shaved solo seat, lighter exhaust, smaller tank. Would really add up in $$ and weight loss.

Right off the top, a lightweight exhaust system will shave many pounds.

If you wanted a light bike the Thruxton is not the right bike

I stuck some mag wheels on mine and saved almost 20lbs of unsprung weight.

lose weight
Expensive, but light weight wheels that do not require tubes would be one of the best things to do. Since you lose unsprung weight and rotational inertia.-T1

Ditto to the wheels, the stock ones are SUPER heavy, nearly burst a blood vessel carrying mine to the dealer just up the road after a puncture! Try a fibreglass fuel tank, get rid of the rear mudguard, side covers, mirrors, rear pegs, chain guard, use mini clocks, they all add up! If you want real weight saving, a different engine and smaller frame backbone are in order, cos the stock ones are chunkified!

the tank isn't all that heavy, when empty anyway. I can't really see a f/g tank saving much weight.
