newbie, possible thruxton purchase q's........

Hey guy just ran into this board while googling the thruxton and decided to join. Seriously thinking about picking up said bike. My last bike was a 06 kawi 636, before that a 00 kawi zx7r, so i'm coming from a sportbike background. However as i'm getting older and wiser i know i'm pretty much done with the crotch rockets and wanted to make a change. messing around the dealer websites to see what's new and i ran into the thruxton and fell in love, now here i am.... lol

I found a thruxton at a dealer near me, it's a 07 left over in black/white stripe. he has it listed for $7,999.00 (i'm in miami, FL) but looking around i see that the MSRP on a new 08 is the same?! what do you guys think would be a fair price out the door (tax, dealer fees, and all the crap) for a left over 07? i'm planning on going there monday to check it out. any dealing tactics you guys can offer?

i see there were a few changes for 08 specially the bars versus clip ons, although personally i prefer the clip ons. any other important changes made? should i get an 08 instead?

finally how is triumphs financing program?! i don't have the cash to get the bike but do have 750+ clean credit. my last bike ran $11k with kawi financing and i paid it off clean in 2 years. any good promotions going on???

sorry if all of this has been asked before, but i'd really really appreciate any and all input!!!!

thanks alot!

bought my '07 about 6 weeks ago for $7600, and that was only because they charged me $450 to go pick it up from pittsburg. It had 3/10s of a mile on it when I got it.

I financed it with my dealership that uses GE Money Bank (though the documentation says Triumph Financing)... I got 8.9%, payments are reasonable. my credit is decent.

I recommend talking them down. MSRP seems a bit high.

Welcome to the site.

According to my inquiries and discussions with multiple sources, the 2008 US Thruxton models still come equipped with clip-ons. The European version has the yoke mounted bars.

Bought my 07 Thruxton in January as a leftover. Can't remember the out-the-door price, but the bike was discounted down to $6,499. I think I paid $7200 not including tax.

Man, I would love to have 99-00 ZX7R again. I miss mine. I miss my 00 ZX6R too, but the 7R had better looks and hella more fun to twist on.

As noted, GE Money Bank does the financing. They're pretty easy to work with on months to financed etc .. and they dont try to rape you. Seems they want to sell bikes. As for ongoing promotions, Triumph usually advertises those on their site.

You'll be disappointed in the top speed/handling/braking when comparing to your Kawa, but the bike feels like you're going much faster than actual and you can most certainly keep up with the avg sportbike rider in the twisties (do ya'll have those in Miami?). Just remember, it's a naked bike, old skool format, 70 crank hp, you get the jist.

You should be able to talk that price down ... I wouldnt pay the same price for an older (still new) bike, but that's just me.

trust me i'm no longer searching to fill my thrill needs from a motorcycle. I crashed my 636 going too hot into a curb, had a nice meeting with a pole. 2 years later, 3 surgeries later, and now i'm equipped with a titanium femur, elbow and a few screws here and there. I got a permanent limp and set off just about any metal detector. To say the least i'm done with sportbikes, not because i blame a style of bike for my crash, but that style does seem to invoke inresponsibility in me something i really don't need anymore.

I'm looking for something fun to ride around town, occasional hour long trips up coast, commuting to work on nice days, and taking out the g/f every once in a while. Not alot of twisties here in sfla but lots of sunshine year roud!

looking at the triumph site i see a promotion of 3.9%apr or $1,000 cash back towards gear, 3.9%def being the better of the two

thanks for all the feedback so far pls keep them coming

i just bought an '08 thruxton. the 3.9% apr and or $1000 in accessories is not for the thruxton. it seems like it's for every other new triumph model except that one. apparently there's not as big a mark-up on this model (what the dealer told me).

Hey Cooler,

Glad you're still with us! Sounds like you had a real close call there. I sold my 2002 Aprilia Mille for just the reason you stated. I didn't crash it or even come close, but the temptation to ride way too fast was something I didn't feel comfortable with. I think you'll really like the Thurx. I've got a '79 bonnie myself and a BMW R1150R and I'd really like to get a thrux. hmmm...lets see my wife "needs" a motorcycle...

Yep, what derekb said. The 3.9% deal doesn't include the Thruxton. The Bonne and Scrambler are included. Try and talk them down in price. I know I've seen a few new '07 Thruxton's around here for under $7000.
