Anyone go from S3 to Thrux?

I'm thinking about getting rid of my Speed Triple and buying a Thruxton. The local dealer has a Blue '07 Thrux Special Edition (not sure why it's a special edition) that I have fallen in love with. I really like my Speedy but like everyone else on this board I love cafe racers. I don't care about going fast anymore I would rather just ride for fun.

I guess my main concern is the comfort factor. I rarely ride over 200 miles in a day but when I do, I don't want to be in pain all day. My last bike was an SV650S. The riding position didn't bother me that much except on extra long rides. I'm 36 and the sins of my youth are starting to catch up with me if you know what I mean.

My next question is the price. They have marked the Thrux down to $7999. They have ridden it to a couple of local shows and it has just over 100 miles on it. Their asking price seems a little high to me. Are they out of line with what everyone else is seeing?

Thanks in advance for you help.

$7999 is the MSRP for the 2007. The dealer can't represent it as brand new if it has miles on the clock and he has taken it to some shows. I would expect a discount off the MSRP.

Never had the S3 experience, but seriously liking the Street Triple....if you can find one.

I bought my '07 thrux about 6 weeks ago. Paid $7600 for it, and they had to go get it from 4 hours away... The bike had 4/10s of a mile on it when I rode it home.

$8k is too much for something with 200 miles on it.

This march I got a new Thruxton,EFI.The bike I traded in was a 2001 Tiger.I also have a 97 s/triple 900 which is my main bike, when it rains or need to do some distance at speed.
I would go for it if you now have no interest in speed or having themodern look'.If you like the look and sound of the cafe racers, image etc you will love it as I do.If you are not sure about the riding position I would go for the flat bars that now come as standard on the Thruxton. They are plenty low enough and in my view a clean look. Some clip ons are just too low and you will get a pain in the back and then not enjoy the bike!Nothing worse than having a bike you have longed to have the not enjoying it.If you the change your mind then get some clip on's.Thats how I would do it.
Get the Thruxton, you will love it.I promise.Yes I know,I have both. But would now have just the Thruxon if I had to have just one at this time of life.I too have done the fast bikes, love the cafe style hence the s/triple but time to slow down now and with the Thrux can now make lots of noise with open pipes and get as much fun doing 40mph as doing 60mph around town. And thw girls love the look, its a look that they can handle, chrome, paint, wire wheels, its not all race rep plastic ect, they don't dig that!

I have both
2005 Thruxton and 2006 Speed Triple
they are different bikes
the S3 is much faster, more comfortable and more "modern"
the Thruxton is a blast to ride and 200 miles is no problem at all but not with the stock bars: gotta get Tarozzi high boys
there is less chance that you will loose your license or life on the Thruxton and it is much "cooler"

And that has a lot to do with it too. With out even trying I'm breaking the speed limit on a regular basis on the triple. I've never had a ticket and I don't want to start now. I would like to think of myself as a responsible adult but the S3 is just so smooth and easy to go fast on that I find myself doing things that I never would have done on any other bike.

Maybe the triples should come with a special warning sticker. "WARNING: The Speed Triple has been shown to create stupid behavior in otherwise normal adults. Ride at you own risk!"

from what i understand, that's pretty much the consensus with the speed3. what about the street3? i have a thruxton-ated bonnie, but the street triple looks pretty cool. . . more in monster territory.

I've made a two hour trip on the Thruxton with minimal numb-fist, just to hang out for an hour or two and do the two hour ride back. The seat is very roomy, so you can shift position as needed. Riding two up is a different story, I start feeling the numbness coming on after about a half-hour.

That price is silly. Hell, for $300 more you can order a brand new '08. Or even wait until the '09 line comes out with fuel injection. I picked up my used '04 with two years and 1,500 miles on it for $5500. It came with the fly screen and an extra set of Hagon shocks.

Any of you short fellers lookin' for some Hagons?

I could always wait on the Street Triple to show up but I don't think it would do me any good to go to a smaller cc version of what I already have. If I sell the S3 it's going to be to buy a Thruxton.

Ask what the "special edition" is about. That's probably were the extra cost is.
