Question engine covers

does anyone have detailed instructions (maybe w/ pictures) on how to remove all the engine covers (clutch, alternator, valve)?

i ordered a clymer manual for newbonneville about a week ago and it still hasn't gotten here and i'm antsy to get my covers powder coated.

any help would be good.

thanks.

a few tips:

buy new gaskets
drain the oil

clutch cover:
-take off shifter lever
-remove all bolts
-be careful not to lose the "wavy washer" on the starter motor shaft (looks like a bent up washer)

alt cover:
-remove all bolts
-pull hard, but not too hard, the magnet/rotor/etc is holding the cover to the motor

cam cover:
-remove seat, gas tank
-remove 4 bolts that hold the cam cover on
-you might have to use a rubber mallet to tap (did I say tap?) the cover lightly side to side to loosen the seal
-lift it off, carefully, it's easier to remove it from the brake side of the bike.
-do not drop anything down into the motor!!!!

There's more to it than all that, but that will get you started. If you're going to PC those parts, you'll also have to remove all the little gaskets/washers/etc and also the alt coil. The Haynes should be able to help you there.

Good luck, post pics

+1 on everything sweat said but here's my 2 cents. Go to Loews and get you a couple a packets of 8mm flat washers, stainless, to put on all the bolts going into the side covers. This will save your powder coating when the bolt tightens up and turns against the coating thereby scratching or worse, cracking your coating. And star tighten the bolts ONLY to 10NM.

just to make sure. i have read that you can use the Purolator Pure One 14612 on a thruxton even though the website says to use a 16819. is that true? what is the difference?
