Thruxton / PS1000 comparo!!!
Ok, while these bikes are merely styled similarly, they are in no way similar except in that they are both gorgeous, and motorcycles. It's obvious which is a better bike as far as intense sport use goes. However, the Thruxton is SO friggin easy to ride and enjoyable it's hard not to draw comparisons.
Everyone here knows the Thruxton's shortcoming is it's suspension, hands down, also it is a bit heavy. Though, in my opinion: that's its only shortcoming.
The Duc on the other actually has a few flaws that weren't evident until I hopped back on the Thruxton yesterday after riding the Duc for the week.
The Duc is downright crap to ride UNDER 4,000rpm in any gear aside from first. It just plain sucks. Sure it's got 92hp- at 8,000 rpm. It's peak torque output is 62 or ft.-lbs. at 6,000rpm.
The Duc is a high revving machine that must be ridden in the upper revs. I'm always the next gear higher than I am on the Thrux. 2nd gear in town, 4th- sometimes 5th on the highway, 6th is there just because it can be there.
The fairing directs wind into your face and chest, cold riding kinda sucks as a result.
The riding position forced me to purchase a longer jacket so "a$$" not to offend anyone behind me, if you're catchin' what I'm throwin' here.
For the women on the board my next complaint is a non-issue: the tank jams right into my junk (vice-versa rather) whenever I come to a quick stop. This bike won't see many miles until after I have 2.4 kids.
The mirrors are useless, at least they look good ironically.
The clutch lever requires about 700lbs. of force to pull it.
The rear brake is pure aesthetics, cause it doesn't do a **** thing- luckily the front brakes are amazing.
It takes about 15 minutes to warm up, so you can't really just "hop on and go ride".
And the gauges aren't mounted very securely.
With all of that said- it's one of the best vehicles I have EVER owned.
Once it's warm and I have my new jacket on, I can ride the piss outta it and it does EXACTLY what I expect it to. Who cares what is behind me? I'll outrun it. Also, I don't really want kids right now anyway- because 2.4 kids = 2-4 motorcycles.
Back to the Thruxton.
After riding the Duc for a week, the Thrux's riding position seemed so sedate and neutral- I bet a Bonnie woulda felt like a Barcalounger and a Beemer like a waterbed.
The Thruxton sounds dumb when running (stock exhaust), but it runs so smooth, the clutch is light, and the brakes are pretty **** good compared to the Duc's (no kidding).
My manhood remains intact ready for another day, not unnecessary flogging... I realize there may be no such thing as a "necessary flogging" of one's manhood, but I digress...
The Thruxton is just SO **** beautiful. Like, really. The Duc is cool looking, no question, but the Thruxton? It's perfect. There's nothing anyone in the world could do to make the Thruxton look "better", all they would do is make it look "different".
Maybe I'm bias.
I'll keep reporting back as time goes on.
I have to go watch the Sharks get their ass kicked by Dallas now.
