That Bike is very freaking cool. I doubt your going to find anybody on this board that will talk you out of it.

As sombody stated earlier it is a very aggressive riding position and for me that would be the only negative.

Sell, hock, trade, expatriate, barter, lose, leave, and/or discard what ever you must (...except for another bike, of course) to GET THAT BIKE!

Live with the bike, or live with regret. You decide. But if it were me... I'd get it.

NOW.

Trying to talk you out of it…

Just make sure that you can afford to maintain it.

The downfall of Ducati is frequent valve adjustments. Unless you are an experienced motorcycle mechanic you are probably not prepared to do your own valve adjustments. I worked on Ducatis in 2001 and a monster at the time required a valve adjustment every 6000 miles. The labor rate was $65.00 hr then. A 6000 mile service was billed at 8-10 hrs + parts and a 12000 mile service was 10-12 hrs + parts. Now the local Ducati shop rate is $85 hr. I know Ducati is claiming up to 50% less maintenance cost on the 2008s but the details on the web site is a little vague and the savings seem to be based on riding the bike only 3000 miles a year.

I’d hate to see you not be able to move out of your parents’ house just because you have to spend your money doing regular services on your Ducati.

Move out of your parents house. I'd rather have no motorcycle or car an be on my own than live with the parents and have anything I wanted.

Other Motorcycle: right, i wish. . .
from a recent review i read. . .

Quote:
I drag the bike out of the downtown dealership, swing a leg over and before I even get to squeeze the clutch lever, I can hear myself cursing compulsively inside my helmet. I'll spare you the list of exotic locations to which I sent the mothers of various high-ranking people in Ducati in my cursing. I mean, you try to reach for the handlebar, bend, then bend some more all the while thinking, "Where's the Candid Camera? This is a joke, right?" The bar height is just the beginning; I haven't mentioned yet the fuel tank's length that simply stretches you inquisition-style over the whole bike. The combination of these two demonic dimensions means that the first few minutes of city riding it feels like hell has come down on earth. So you wanted to know what a real 1970's racer-on-the-road felt like? You don't need a PhD in bikeology to know that this thing doesn't mix with city dwelling. No, sir.

Well. So much for talking me out of it!
As of now I have a 1985 Jaguar XJ6 with an LT1 for sale!

I'm heading to the dealer tomorrow to talk numbers.
They're prepared to "do what it takes to get rid of it"- it's been sitting for 2 years completely ignored.

As far as living with parents goes:
I never said this was a "get a bike or move out" situation... my girlfriend's lease is up in Sept. We're shacking up together then (she likes guys with strong family values/ties, or should I say, Mama's boys).
My problem is, I REALLY don't need another bike cause there isn't a place to put it.

I will be keeping you all posted as events unfold.
Thank you all for your lack of support in my time of want.

Gotta hand it to ya. if you can keep that arsenal of machinery running and keep a girlfriend that let's you crash at HER place...you deserve the bike for being such a smoothe mofo.
