Banging forks

Ive just done the f3 fork mod 95 fw fork internals, with 460ml of 10 grade oil.
on the test ride, on braking the is a banging noise, like there bottoming out.
I have screwed the preload in fully with little difference.
Have i got the wrong oil levels? any ideas please.

I just did my forks as well. Mine was a 98 set of forks. I used the Race Tech cartridges and springs. I also used 460 (15.5oz) of oil. I used 5 weight as suggested by race tech. I do not have any noise or banging.
Did you use the stock internals from the honda fork? Perhaps there is a problem with them. Are the tubes straight? I am usually concerned when buying used parts because you never really know what they have been through.

Pinpoint the source

Have you been able to determine where the noise is coming from, more specifically?

If the internals are installed correctly, with the correct spring spacer and all, they shouldn't be bottoming out. If the forks fully compress when braking, you would have a noticable handling problem.

Could it be the fender, the headlight bucket, or something else that's making noise?

Did you remove or slacken the steering head bearings when you did the mod? If so, you may not have tightened them enough - this will give the same symptoms as you describe.

I used a set off a 95 f3 & I found when I re-assembled the forks using the 8mm Honda fork bolt through the Triumph 10mm hole in the fork slider that under full compression the fork tube would bind a stick until I loosened & realigned the 8mm bolt through the 10mm hole. That may cause the symptoms that you describe.
