Congrats on the bike! I'm 175 miles into my break-in. I've varied the engine speed, kept it away from redline, just generally tried to be "nice" to it... though I've spanked it once or twice just to keep the grin going.
the two schools of thought on breaking in a motor that I have heard are:
1) Gentle/varied -- which is to kind of baby it, not get too hard into it, keep the rpms well away from redline until around 500miles to let the engine work in, then change the oil to get any birs that may have worked loose out of the engine.
2) Drive it how you would drive it normally so the engine is "used" to the way you ride.
