ordered parts for homemade Fender Eliminator Kit...

i've been debating for months on whether or not to spring for a prefab FEK or do it myself, and have been going back and forth on the decision, but decided against a prefab kit because of price or the fact that there was some component on each kit that i didnt like, ie: one kit only came with clear lenses for the turn signals, or i didnt like where the signals mounted, etc.

so i finally sucked it up and ordered parts for a homemade FEK. i ordered two pair of mini cateye turn signals in chrome with amber lenses and a lucas style tail light (this is the tail light found on most of the aftermarket FEK's) from www.crc2onlinecatalog.com , all parts are brand new, with tax and shipping it came to just under $64.00

here is a link to a pic of the turn signals, except the ones i ordered have amber lenses:

i debated on just getting a license plate cover that had 2 bars of LED's for the taillight but decided against it since i though it was too "modern" for the look of the thruxton. this is just my personal opinion though.

i dont know if these brackets will work or not, but figured if they do it will be way easier than fabricating anything myself to mount the taillight and license plate. was thinking of drilling the license plate holder to the underside of the tail light and just using some rubber washers to make a tight seal and keep out the elements. total with shipping for both brackets was under $15. these are links to the brackets that i bought on ebay:

i have no idea if the brackets i bought will work, and if they don't i will just fabricate something, but for the price i figured it was worth trying it out, and regardless, in the end it will end up costing less way less than half of the aftermarket FEK's.

so all in all, for all the parts and shipping it's less than $80. the only additional cost will be for primer and spray paint to paint the chopped fender flat black since mine are grey/silver. i am going to use the stock fender and just chop it since i have access to an angle grinder, dremel and bench grinder.

That is almost the route I took, except I ordered the FEK from Bellacorse then I cut the back of the lip off, I added the cateyes from them too. I made my own license plate bracket out of aluminum I had laying around, it looks about like the one you ordered.

Pictures of the modding would be great.

any pictures of your big Badda Bing? I would like to see how your rear turn signals look.

Thanks
