nice choice

I have the same bike and thought the same thing about the stock mirrors.
The triumph bar end mirrors work very well and look waaaay cool.

Welcome .

There is all sorts of stuff out there for this bike to make it the way you want it . Just snoop along and look around . But you'll soon see that a Thruxton owner is never satisifed . You'll be buying crap for that bike like I do all the time. Welcome to the addiction.

Thanks, and I see you point... today I was looking at the rear brake light and turn signals thinking... Maybe something smaller, and brighter!

And so it begins...

Go with the Naps! The only thing the modding bug ever hurt is your wallet! Lols. Congrats on the bike!

I bet it won't LOL

Here are my bar end mirrors. They have convex glass, and are fine for lane splitting.

A different story...

Hi!

I just bought a used Thrux with Naps, or Triumph bar-end mirrors. I could not see anything behind me and felt vulnerable bigtime on the freeway. There's no lane-splitting here in CO, but I felt they made the bike super wide, GoldWing-wide, and I did not like them.

I put cheapish aftermarket long-stem mirrors on the bike after buying aftermarket mirror-mounting clamps: The previous owner had misplaced them, and the little stock covers for the bar ends. I don't mind the length of the mirrors. There are safety issues involved here. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I bought mirror extenders for my ZRX11 a few years ago so I could see past my shoulders. I remember Suzuki made buzz-absorbing extenders; I'd like to have a pair of those.

I bought a set of Manic Salamander bar end weights and have just installed them. Paul at MS has a kit just for Thruxtons. When I've ridden with them (they're thirteen oz heavy!) I'll write the forum. Installation was a snap.

Congrats on the new bike! Maynard

Thanks,
So you had vision issues even with the naps, or it was the width of the bars with the naps that you did not like?

Let me count the ways...

If I think about it, I can come up with no (none) things I liked about the bar end mirrors. They had flat glass, I believe, and they showed me two tiny patches of highway behind me, leaving blind spots you could hide Chicago in.

They made my bike really wide, and although there is no lane-splitting here in Colorado, one of the things I like about motorcycles is that they are smaller and nimbler than automobiles. My Thrux was nimbler than an SUV with the bar ends but not much narrower.

If I did not know better, I would suspect that the prevalence of bar end mirrors on Triumph's sporty models springs from the mirrors' stylishness. I'm just being cynical, I'm sure.

The mirrors I bought at the m/c accessory store also feature flat glass. I may have to buy another pair, convex this time. When I glance up at a mirror, I'd like to get all the information I can in that instant. Someone sketchy MIGHT be following me...

Sincere congratulations on your new bike. Maynard

Thanks for the info. I will take saftey of looks right now as I am a fairly new street ride. No need for rear mirrors on 4-wheelers and dirt bikes (at least most of the time)

Went ahead with the naps, should have them in a few days.

Naps in Naptown

Hi RGood!

If you can force yourself to do it, leave your stock mirrors on the bike for a ride after you install the bar ends. Compare what you see. Years ago, when people passed you on the left - even on the freeway - you could get by with one not-so-effective mirror, and we did. Today, the right hand lane has become a passing lane. No lane discipline. We need IMHO to do what we can to protect ourselves, 'cause our friends in their GMCs and Priuses are too busy.

I was raised in Indy and bought my first bike from Dryer Cycle on West Washington Street. I still have family in town. A group of us in going to the MotoGP and the Indy Mile. So much excitement in what was genuinely a boring town - back when. Not any more...

Enjoy your bike, RGood!
