Photos of my milled down sprocket cover

With the help of my coworker/friend who is a machinist, I was able to get the sprocket cover down to ~150 grams or 1/3 of a pound. The cover started at about 800 grams or about 1 3/4 pounds. We recessed the bolt holes so the bolt heads are flush with the cover, and I polished the outer face.

I think it looks pretty good.

and a crap photo of the whole thing. I'll probably get some better shots tomorrow in the mountains.

The actual milling took about 20 minutes. I hack sawed the lower portion off first, and cut away most of the top with a dremmel also. The tricky part was getting it in the vice on the mill. I just happened to have the correct 6x1.0 bolts at my shop though.

It DOES look good. I especially like the recessed bolts. You cut away so much of it, however, I wonder why you still have it on at all?

I guess it's still there as a barrier between my leg and the chain if it actually does break. It still overlaps the chain by a good 1.5cm. It also blocks chain lube from going all over the engine case.

I dunno... It's mostly still there because I like how it looks

OT, but I see you have the stock 18t, I think you should try a 17t just for kicks. I freaking love my 17t.

ok carb-
I like the look. Not much of it left but what is there looks good and like you said will probably offer a little protection still. Do you plan on removing your chainguard? I've been going back and forth on that one and can't decide.

Sweat-
I ordered a 17t from my dealer on Monday. I Didn't go with the triumph brand sprocket, instead went with an aftermarket. I'm doing it for a little more around town zip but I was curious if I was going to loose much top end and gas mileage. I'm not too concerned about loosing either but curious about your experience. Did you have to adjust the chain afterwards too? How long did the job take?

you'll have to adjust the chain to install it, but your gas mileage difference should be negligible. You will lose some MPH on the top end, but I like blasting though the gears in town.
