D&D Full Race Pipes

Does anyone have these yet? I just noticed them on newthruxton.com. Curious if they would pose a problem in changing the oil at all and how the whole bike looks...not just a cropped picture showing just the pipes.

I have the other set of D&D, that form into a single pipe. From the headers to the midway point they look to be the same as mine. I had to remove the rear part of the muffler (from the the mid point on back) to get to the oil plug and filter. It wasn't too much work but I did need another person to help me. All that was required was to unscrew a single bolt where the pipe connects to the rear foot peg and also the two screws at the mid way point. I used a rubber mallet to knock the rear section of the muffler off and away. Reassembly was easy.

One thing I would do differently is before you unscrew the drain plug, cover up the exposed mufflers. They are in close proximity of each other and when I pulled the sump plug oil shot STRAIGHT out and into my pipe. I cleaned it out ok and was expecting it to smoke but it didn't. Hope this helps. I might have a picture, I'll see If I can post it or one when I get home.

Maybe alittle help? Also, no center stand so you need the lift.

i talked a bunch of smack about buying them a couple of weeks ago, when i first became aware of them, but it looks like I was all show and no go (which i'm not proud to admit). new bonneville was kind to answer a bunch of my questions but i just couldn't pull the trigger on a $600 set of pipes when the preds i have only have 5k on them, look great and seem to be getting louder with a little time.

other (but lessser) concernes were the quoted 3 inches of ground clearance and, like someone stated above, the hassle with routine maintanence. ground clearance concern was not for lean angle reasons but for driveway curbs which can sometimes be steep around here.

i still get wood when i see a pic of them and i hope you do buy them and post some pics/opinions, they are the dogs!!

so if i'm reading all this right, you would have to pull the exhaust apart or off to get the oil filter out? skip that then..... thanks for the info!

It comes off in one piece, since i have the full lenth pipes I needed another person. Since the new D&D pipes are shorter you can probably do them yourself. Again, the headers stay. It's really not so bad.

im going to get a set, just to hear them. i work in a metric bike shop and traditionally d&d pipes are pretty ****ty, in my area anyway. they blow their baffles out too fast and have very ratty sounds.

but since i get them cheap i think i want to see how they look in person. i have bubs on my thruxton and constantly get compliments on the looks and sound of them.

im just curious, so im getting them. theres always ebay if i dont like them.

and i certainly wouldnt let the fact that they need to be removed to access the oil filter sway me from purchasing them. so what if it takes 10 more minutes to do an oil change?

When you get them, post some pictures of the clamps that hold the mufflers on... one other thing that concerned me is taking the mufflers on and off every month is going to eventually make a poor fit and air gap where they meet. That has as much to do with the pain of doing it during the oil change....

Why would you need to take the mufflers off every month?
