the thruxton and wind.

Hello all. Does anybody else have trouble with their thruxton in the wind? I have trouble even in small winds. It feels like my bike is unable to turn. I do realize that higher winds are bad for all bikes, but the smallest wind and mine tripps out. Its a stock 07 thruxton. I am a new rider, so Im not ruling out the possibility that its due to lack of skill, but it seems too extreme a problem for the wind speed. I've ridden other bikes and have had no issues, both heavier and lighter ones.

Thanks.
Matt

I moved to the Thruxton from an 01 Tiger. The bars are about 3x wider. The narrow width of the drops took some getting used to. But other than the rider theres not a lot of profile to enjoy the effects of high crosswinds.

We had a RAT ride Sunday and during the ride we were leaning left while in a right hand curve. So the Thruxton does catch some crosswind. It won't take long to get comfortable with it.

The worst thing to do is tighten to fight the wind. For one thing you need to put more weight in your center and use your thighs a bit more while relaxing your upper body. I will admit I do not like riding when its real windy, but you can make it easier on yourself following the body dynamics that I stated.

Bikes in general are no fun in strong wind.

Yep, you'll get used to riding in wind. The Thrux is actually pretty good in the wind as it is low & heavy plus you can crouch. Now my KLR, that's a sail, tall & light!

Good advise Whitehurst. Spring winds here are strong. After a winter like what we have had I will ride in 50mph. side wind if it is warm The Thruxton is touchy if you do not take your weight off the front end and relax

I got a steering damper a few months ago and have noticed an improvement. Other than getting a smaller head, there's not much else you can do but crouch and bear it.

whenever I get in strong winds I end up lying down on the tank and sliding my butt back as far as it will go, it seems to help.......

You can almost literally sail a KLR in a good gusty wind; it's actually pretty fun.
