Thruxton +1, Harley 0
Just had to brag it up a bit about how much attention I got today with my bike. Oh, and I paid $5,000 less than the guy's bike I rode with AND I out-scooted him on every sweeper and twist.
Scenario: Cloudless Sunday with temps in the '60's and everyone and their mother is wringing out the cabin fever from their systems. I meet up with a guy with a brand-spanking new (<250 miles) Harley Fat Bob (a new model even) and we head out and around some mountain and farmland roads.
The go-down: The 1st stop we made had people gathered around the Thruxie and his red -n- gold pearled, chrome skull-emblasoned HD was totally ignored. I was loving it, and he, at first, thought it was just a chance occurence. After the 4th stop with exactly the same thing happening I heard a low-down, under-the-breath nervous chuckle that stems from being utterly flabbergasted. It was coming from the HD guy. He couldn't believe it. The thruxie is a charmer, that's for sure.
Of course, this made my day of riding even sweeter.
Long Live Brit Iron and the Brit Spirit. Everyone loves it!

Not me! Our bikes rule.
Though it would surprise Rider Magazine, they liked the Sportster better than the Bonneville- they also said in the same review that the Ducati Sport 1000 is too modern to be considered a classic.
Which is basically the most retarded statment to make when reviewing NEW motorcycles.

I felt that article was disingenous anyway, since they should have tested the 883 sportster instead

Totally! The 883 would've been a better match for the Bonnie, if not the article's classic bike theme.
Also I thought it was contadictory that they loved the ride of the Sporty but hated its shocks AND said the Duck was too modern but picked the Sporty with EFI.
The pictures were nice though!

Well, the 883 would be most true to the original anyway.
Oh, and the score should be Thruxton +2 - handling AND charisma

I to have had the same expeience. My wife always wonders why it takes me so long to run to the store... She never belived me when I told her it's because people flock to my bike and start asking ? or reminising about the old bonnie or Bsa they used to have. That was untill I had her on the back and we stopped for a burger at a drive in. I kid you not it took 20 min just to get away from the bike to the window to order our grub...Guess I can start taking the longer long way to and from the store from now on. hehehe... as far as that artical goes WHAT CRAP! I have owned sportsters and I even looked at a few when I bought my Thruxton they basically said that the sportster was the only continuasly produced bike in the bunch and stayed closest to the original...hummm. so why not pit an 883 aganst the 865 bonnie I mean it still beats it in displacement. the 1200 is like trying to bring in a ringer or somthing , although it only made them look even more foolish, And one more rant, the sticker price!!! you CAN NOT walk into an H-D dealer and buy a 1200 for that price now a days I am not too sure you could get even an 883. It just goes to show you that the media mongers are so in bed with H-D it really would not matter what turd on wheels H-D sends them to review it will always get thumbs up all around. V-rod anyone?

Yeah! I know exactly what you mean. Now and then I ride with the local base riding club or local VFW riders group and my red Thrux with loud pipes always gets the attention at stops by the HD/ Victory (and metric cruiser) guys. And the Thrux cost SO much less When I teach MSF classes the students always ask about my bike and (mostly) ignore my partners Victory.

That's one of the main reasons I took the tank badges off the Thrux. I wish people would just shut the hell up and let me ride. Now I tell them all it's a Honda and they leave me alone.
