I've heard a thruxton with staintunes, and while it sounds sweet from behind, it still has that george jetson whistle sound up front. Is it intake noise, or engine internals? If it's intake noise, I would imagine modifying or removing the airbox would make a difference. anyone?
Peace,
Johnnie

:???: I have a Thruxton with Staintunes and I don't hear the Jetson sound after I removed my stock canisters. Mine sounds sweet from all sides (well, I haven't heard it from below).

never really noticed it before...started it up tonight and ***** if george jetson isn't right there inside that engine chiming away.

luckily the staintune roars and the K&N's suck like some monstrous vacuum pulling in and spitting out torque and ponies

I think that might just be extraneous bong noise.

bong noise? like that bubbly percolating sound? lots of modern motorcycles make this sound. maybe it's like, the oil coursing around inside it's oil passages or the crancase ventilation or something...

Really, that sound drives me nuts and its a little embarrasing when cruising Daytona on Bike week at crawling speed where ther is little intake or exhaust noise to cover it up. Anyone know what really causes this sound? I WANT IT DEAD!

I don't know about the sound that you are hearing, but on my Thrux there is a distinctive whine sound present that is audible at all engine speeds.

The Bonneville engines have a hybrid chain/gear cam drive arrangement. It is similar to the setup found on Suzukis TL/SV 1000. I think that Honda V-4s have it, too. Gear drives make gear whine, (straight cut gears in particular) so I chalk the sound that I hear up to that.

Why does this sound embarrass you?

gear noise? sounds right. I don't understand how the gear/chain hybrid drive works...

OK, seriously, I have not noticed this noise. Now I am worried that I may hear it and it will drive me crazy, too...

it's that whirry-purry noise that modern motorcycles make (think gold wing) in lieu of the ratchety cratchety valve train noise of cycles of yore. hear it now?

Johnnie
