Mods (to bike not to me!): AI removed, Norman Hyde pipes, Rear Fender eliminated and new small turn signals, CRG LS bar ends, fork gaiters, painted front fender matching black, SS bolt kit on carbs.

Best looking bike outside of the Barber Museum!
Handles well enough for me although I will probably change the rear shock sometime in the future.
Everyone likes to come take a closer look, Harley riders give me the 'thumbs up!'

Modifications: Silver accesory paint, ceramic coated headers, Triumph mufflers, Rejetted, Two Brothers Bar raisers.

Problems: The only problems I've had really was I didnt like the bluing of the pipe..fixed with ceramic coated headers, the speedo is wildly off at high speed (maybe because its made for the larger T100 wheel?) and some of the pieces..like the headlight bracket seem to have flaws in the coatings...but perfection isnt possible right? Oh and sometimes it doesnt want to progress from second to third..usually when the RPM is higher..with my mods to exhaust and carbs I'm getting a higher horsepower output so that just might be it.

I really love the bike..I get comments on it no matter where I go and I absolutely love the sound of it. I'm only 23 but all my previous bikes have been older (1977 Honda CB550 F and a 1970 Kawasaki H1) so I don't mind the fact that it doesnt pull stoppies or rip the front wheel off the ground (thats why I have the MachIII) Handling I find is wonderful and I havent really had any problems with the suspension..maybe I'm not that observant or I dont weigh enough to feel it. The bike is a little heavy and I notice it on the longer rides but I knew that getting into the bike. I see lots of people saying they've taken off the air box..how much does that increase performance?

Would never trade for a sport bike.

1m84, 110kg (6ft 240lbs)



Modifications: Flyscreen, TOR pipes, Ai removed and I usually ride without the tailpiece.

Problems: 1. This was an early model and the engine/transmission leaked like a sieve from every available seal. Quickly and efficiently taken care of by Chris at Moto Montreal, and they even lent me a T100 overnight while fixing my bike. So, really, what could have been a major problem was reduced to just a minor inconvenience.
2. Rear shocks recall. No big deal.
3. After 1 year seat developed a 1-inch tear just above the sidecover. Replaced under warranty.


For me, this bike was love at first sight. It just looks so right.

Having said this, buying it was still a leap of faith: I suffer from osteoarthitis in my left wrist and riding had become extremely painful. Thankfully. the Thruxton has changed that and made riding a pleasure again. Clip-ons and all. I am not an orthopedist, but my theory is that the bars are prefectly angled; the wrist is in a straight line with the forearm instead of being angled outwards like it is on so many other bikes. Whatever the reason, it works ! I rode all summer without once feeling pain in my wrist. Kudos to Triumph.

Don't be fooled by road tests that question this bike's ergonomics, they are in fact pretty darn good.

The Thruxton will not outrun the latest ZZGRXBUSA, and shows it's limitations if you ride it at 10/10ths, but it is incredibly sweet and pleasant at 8/10ths, cornering in the classic "knees tightly against the gas tank (or actually the engine heat shields)" style.

It is also a surprisingly comfortable commuter.

The other important thing you need to know about the Thruxton is that it will attract lots of attention form nostalgic old men who used to "own one just like it".

Additional: Installed the TOR pipes and removed the AI at the 10000km service: Big difference. Better midrange and more useful rpm range. And the sound !

Before they got the Thruxton out, I was thinking of a bonnie (not the T100) with clip-ons...


Wish I had pictures of my '71 tiger with moded oil tank/frame and clip-ons...lots of fun and maintenance :razz:

Overall Rating: Love this bike . Different from everything else out there, always gets positive comments from other riders and gets a lot of attention from non riders. Never fails to start a conversation when I stop for gas or at rest stops.

Modifications: A/I removed, kneepads. Will do the muffler swap next as funds allow along with rear shocks.

(optional): Owner Height/Weight : 55 years old, 6'1, 225 lbs.

Problems / Resolutions : Blued pipes replaced under warranty. Front wheel shakes but local dealer claims it is due to bent rim thus non warranty item, so I am having an independent shop check the wheel runout to verify this.
Left hand side cover gasket was replaced under warranty to cure small leak.

Owner Review: I was about to buy a leftover 2002 T100 Bonnie when it came out. The local dealer was not interested in selling me the Thruxton cause he had all those 02 / 03 leftovers to sell so I did the Internet thing and found it and for less $$ to boot.
The ergos are not as bad as they have been made out to be. Even for an older rider returning to the sport after 20+ years I find the riding position comfortable enough to do one and a half tanks per riding day.
As far as power and brakes are concerned, I think they are more than adequate for the type of riding that I do which is mostly 7 to 8/10ths. Only those weaned on Japanese Super Sports will find them lacking.
I rate it a 9.4 out of 10.

Love the bike! Went on a three day/1100 mile ride in the Washington Cascades Shortly after buying it. The seating position is perfect for me (lower back problems) since my weight is on my upper body and not my lower back. Cant park anywhere without someone coming up to talk about it…”what year is that?...” Handles great, sounds wonderful (with TORs) looks fabulous. No problems so far with 4500 miles on the clock.

However, when will we get a centerstand from Triumph that fits properly?!

Problems with bike: nothing significant:

I had some condensation or leakage into the tach while riding in the rain a while back, but that dried out quickly.

Someone installed the footpeg rubbers bacwards, so the Triumph logo on the was upside-down if you were standing next to the bike facing front (yeah, I know, only a freak would even notice that).

A coupla bolts were not torqued to spec.

Summary: I absolutely love this bike. It is beautiful, a blast to ride, and a joy to work on. I have always been the type to desire things I don't have (it's a disease) but since getting the Thrux I just like my bike the best.

I think the best summary is this: there are a lot of bikes out there that have great numbers or seem really terrific when you read about them. The Thruxton offers something more--pure, essential motorcycling and a feast for the senses. It is the archetypal motorcycle. John Bloor for president!

.... Year: 2005.... Color: Yellow (hey it is better than I thought it would be...)... Mileage: 500 (I travel a lot so I haven't been home much...) Overall Rating: AWESOME....

I've been drooling over the Thrux for a year and finally bought one... and it is as much of a kick in the a$$ as thought it would be... I wasn't looking for an all out sport bike... but wanted something that handles... and it does...

I heard so much about the riding position I was wondering how it would feel... I've been riding bicycles (road and mountain) for years and it pretty much fits right in... I do get so tingling in the hands after awhile but I do riding bicycles too...

I've not done any serious modifications yet... but have quite a list going... so far I have to settle for tank pads (which I use to help take some weight of my hands when needed)... and a fly screen is on the way...

I agree with the other posters... the looks are timeless rather than something out of the most recent sci-fi flick...
