Hi, all.
New here and looking for my first bike. I've done some research and fell in love with the classic Triumphs... cafe style.
So I basically have it narrowed down to the Street Twin, Thruxton 900... or maybe even wait for the new Street Cup.
Here are the pros and cons of each as I see them. Please let me know if I'm missing something and let me know your thoughts.
Street Twin:
Pros:
- New technology: ABS, traction control, higher torque at low RPMs, better handling, lighter, better mpg, looks awesome
- Better performance stock than Thruxton 900
Cons:
- At least 1K (US) more than a newish Thruxton 900
- Will have to spend some $ to make it more cafe style - bars, etc
- Feels small to me... I'm 6'1" and sitting on the Thruxton 900 feels much more comfortable than the Street Twin
- Color I want is hard to get right now (silver)
Thruxton 900:
Pros:
- Cheaper initially for a bike that fits and looks close to what I want
- Kind of like the looks overall better than the Street Twin
- Love the riding position
- Lots of upgrades available to increase performance
- The thought of modifying the bike as I learn it seems kind of fun
- Dealer has the Brooklan Green in stock, on sale, right now
Cons:
- Wonder if it will be enough power/performance... I'm sure I'd be happy initially but bet I will be wanting to upgrade it eventually
- Not a huge fan of the green color... can't find any other colors in the area
- Will have to spend some $ to get performance close to the Street Twin
- Technology... weaker brakes, torque, suspension, air cooled, etc
Street Cup:
Pros:
- A cafe style Street Twin!
- Hopefully not many upgrades I would want/need to do initially
Cons:
- Will have to wait? How long?
- Still might feel small to me
- Price?
So any opinions/thoughts would be appreciated! This will be my first street bike, but grew up racing bmx, mountain bikes, and a little bit of moto - so I feel like (hope) my street bike skills will progress fairly quickly.
I guess my biggest fear is getting the Thruxton 900 and then having buyer's remorse... knowing that there is newer, "better" stuff out there.
Please let me know your thoughts, opinions, and experience... need some help here.
Thanks in advance!
J
