Thruxton R Exhaust Options (rolling updates)

Hey guys,

The Thruxton R is so new but I, like many other Thruxton R owners, are already talking about the various ways we can personalize our bikes.

There are many accessories motorcyclists consider but there is that one accessory all gear heads can agree with as being one of the most rewarding: A new exhaust.

To help myself and other Thruxton R's owners find the perfect exhaust option, I started this thread to centralize any news updates or finds that members may stumble upon related to exhausts for the 2016 Thruxton R.

Cheers,
Ri.Le

...especially once the Triumph de-cat tune starts circulating.
There are people who've de-catted their new Thruxtons, while there's still no way to alter the mapping - do these bikes run like crap, or is it not a big deal ?

I wouldnt hold your breath waiting for Triumph to do another tune for a decat...They have taken the performance cam off the website and things have gone very quiet at Triumph about a de-cat exhaust system......I'll be at the dealers tomorrow and see if they have heard anything or can get me some more info from Triumph in Hinckley

Running like crap is the least of your worries, it's internal engine damage you are risking. My advise would be to leave well alone until their is a way of re-mapping the ECU or fitting a Power Commander.......
Patience is a virtue, or so they say.

BC Predator Pro cans would get my vote too if they sound anything like the Predator exhaust I had on my Thruxton 900. The V&H cans from Triumph are not much different sounding than stock. Even with the baffles out, the difference is subtle. At least that's how it struck me after riding a Thruxton R with the off-road V&H exhaust.

when I installed my V&H cans US/Offrds, they didn't sound much different than stock with baffles installed. I had to remove baffles. When I did, they sounded very good. Significantly louder than stock and deeper, but still not abnoxiously loud. If someone wants Harley loud, better go with an aftermarket can.

Unless one actually owns a set of V&H slip-on's (and I'm not sure it would be too economical to spend nearly $a grand$ without hearing them in person first), all consumers have to go by, again, people revving it in neutral in their driveway. And that not only demonstrates nothing... But also does sound quite similar to my stock one, revving in my driveway... And I'm not even sure why I would want to rev my own bike in a driveway...

Very true! I´m one of those impatient people who bought those pipes without even knowing what they sounded like, but I don´t regret it one bit, especially as I got a 10% discount:grin2:

It still wasn´t cheap....750 bucks for the pair:eek: but I think they look fantastic on the bike and they sound sweet too so i´m happy:smile2:

LossaEngineering have slip ons, and a 2-1 coming. No word on decat yet. I wonder if the 2-1 would basically be a y-pipe after the cat to a single megaphone...sneak preview pic on their IG account

When I asked about a decat his answer just said slip-ons and 2-1, didn't say anything about a decat.
Though I hope a company will make something in the form of a decat exhaust and Triumph make some maps, or a company come out with a power commander. Not to sure how that works on these FI bikes. Only during this situation I kinda miss having carbs and just re jetting.
My last bike was a 03 Bonnie with BC 2-1. I miss the sound!

Heard a rumour Arrow was working on something, contacted them.....they confirmed the prototypes were built and "very nice" but said it was to early to tell anyone if there was a decAt system and wouldn't say when they would be released.

I asked specifically about the thrux r.....and he did reply "prototypes" and "these" so hopefully.

British-Customs Slip-Ons
At roughly $200 cheaper than the V&H Triumph ones, that's a nice price-point.

However, in my opinion, they look a little too thin, and still slightly longer than the V&H pipes... And they also don't seem to have that nice looking "finished" metal, when looking into the pipe exit. I also like that slightly angled cut on the V&H ones as well... Oh, and NO black finish is available for those that prefer the black header option from Triumph.

But really who cares since NO ONE has a proper ride-by video of the off road V&H to actually hear anyway... Just people giving it a rev in their driveway, or echo-chamber... Both while jamming the cell phone as far down into the pipe as possible while revving it. W-the-F?

Still hoping & waiting for a 2 into 1 anyway, that doesn't look stupid, to come out... I saw a clip of that group from Taiwan (maybe Moto Trio) on YouTube with a 2 into 1 system, that they had uploaded... But now I can't find it... If they can make one that quickly, others surely will, especially once the Triumph de-cat tune starts circulating.
I saw that video also. Looked like not much baffling at all. Probably just a pipe. Sounded pretty good through the iPhone haha

Triumph said all along end of summer for De-cat headers, race exhaust and tunes. Until it is past end of summer I will not doubt its arrival, which means the aftermarket will be all over it immediately afterwords.

I don't think you will find that statement in any official Triumph literature...so I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
They have removed the performance cam from the website also......

All I'm waiting for is someone to start selling header pipes like the ones in the video I posted a link to above and I'll be happy.
