Rob, I love the look that tank lends to your thrux - all the better for the polished finish.

Johnny,
I can't wait to see your new tank when it arrives. Just out of interest, where in Dumfries is John Williams now. I know Tom McKean is still on the Annan Road (I had my 904 work done there), but it's been more than fifteen years since I last saw John.
I'll be in Dumfries tomorrow, but just passing through. I was past your place this morning, but I didn't have time to call by to scrounge a cuppa as I was taking the kids to the market - hey, I might even find a buyer one day!

Johns an impossible guy to deal with. Not only does it take two weeks for him to reply to an email, but when his WIFE finally replies to an email that was actually a half page or more with questions with; "Yes we make tanks and other items, not sure what you want, call".
Did they even read the email? worse - call - Im writing from the states which is stated in the email,. I wrote for a reason!

Im sure he is busy and he has many customers, but he lost my business since this has happened three times over the last four years.

For those who want a polished tank, not sure what style or size it is going to be, but MAS is coming out with one in a few months and it is specifically being made for the thrux and should be around $800.00us

He's up the Kilmarnock Road (A75 I think). You get to a place called Auldgirth than turn left by the tea shop. Head up the hill till you take a right for Glen Midge then take the next left past the house with the big boat in the garden. Down the hill and Johns is on the right.

Thanks Johnny, I also think that it is just disorganization. He seems to respond to more immediate requests, is always pleasant on the phone and does seem to get out some beautiful work. I think it would be different if I could drive up to his shop. I would appreciate your giving him a gentle nudge for me. Cheers, Bruce

Rob, Your tank looks outstanding! Very well proportioned for the Thruxton in my estimation. The bike is really well sorted out.

Aha - I know exactly where that is, I used to live at High Auldgirth on the other side of the main road and I'd often go past there on my way to Dunscore and Moniaive. I also have very fond memories of blasting up the Holywood straights from Dumfries (the A76, in fact) in the days before the by-pass.

I got mine from Ebay but they look identical to the Bellacourse ones. Probably from the same source. To be honest I wish I'd bought Bellacourse now, they're cheaper than I paid. The finish wasn't brilliant when I got them but they polish up just fine. They're sturdy and they tuck the headlight in towards the forks a little and allow you to lower the light. Gives the bike a much more aggressive stance. Especially with what I've got planned for the instrument mounts!

Well, seeing as I'm still waiting for my tank from John Williams I thought I'd show what I've been up to in the meantime. I'm assured that John will finish the tank as soon as he gets back from holiday......hmmmm, we'll see. To keep myself busy I've polished all the engine covers, top yoke, forks, controls and shifter/brake pedal. Unfortunately it's a typical February day in the north of England so as soon as I went in my shed the lovely polished cases 'fogged' up. Hence they look just like stock cases! As you can see, I've got my Mototwin pipes which look ace but the finish isn't brilliant. They'll need bit more polishing before I fit them. Also in the 'big box of goodies' are Ikons, new sprockets, cast headlight brackets and a Lucas 675 taillight. I've fitted progressives and gaiters to the front end. Now I'm waiting for a pair of chrome clip ons and a front and rear alloy mudguard from Disco Volante Moto. Funds mean I'll have to wait 'til next winter to do any more performance mods. For now it's just pipes and filters but eventually I'll speak to Bob Farnham and get the spec' something like Robnobrakes bike. Another job to do is to go and see my friendly local engineering shop and have them laser cut me a tank strap, ignition switch mount and instrument brackets. Today's job, however, is to start making the 'plug' for the glass fibre seat base. I'll post more pics when I've got some more done.

By the way, it's a wide angle pic, my bench isn't about to collapse!

Cheers Johnny
