First Service by Dealer

First Service by Dealer

Tomorrow I get to drop off the bike for the 500 mile break in service. I would not take it to the dealer if it were not for warranty issues. The dealer told me I would be looking at around $140, not bad for the first service. What I did not like was he was telling me that the break in oil would need to be removed and they would refill the bike with the special Triump oil. I have been on bikes for a few years now and this is the first time I have ever had a dealer tell me they use "break in oil" and I will be getting the "Special Triumph Oil" when the oil would be replaced. Is this dealer blowing smoke up my hind end about break in oil and the Special Triump oil?

Nope. The break-in oil is conventional and the special Triumph oil is Mobil-1 synthetic.

I know others will disagree...

but technically... your bike must be serviced by an authorized Triumph Dealer, at the intervals specified in the Triumph Owners Handbook, or they could void your warranty.

see Conditions and Exclusions #3... click

Doesn't matter what the warranty says. By Federal Law, you could go to Wally World to get the oil changed as long as you can prove they used oil as spec'd and it was changed at the proper interval. (ie: reciept)

Granted, you might have to fight it in court but they would loose hands down.

i called my dealer at the 500 mile service mark and he said just change the oil and you're good. i asked about the warranty and he said, "aagh." he was pretty cool about it. i should add that my dealer is 240 miles away. one way. i'm keeping records of changes and such but the manual says you need dealer stamps to be legit. who knows. my warranty is up in april and, knock on wood, the old ('06) thrux runs like a watch.
