Power gains

I've googled and can't find squat so..

I've got about 1300 miles now on my Thruxton and I wish it had a little more punch so I was looking at modding. So I've heard from you guys that letting the bike breathe aka airbox removal, pipes etc. opens the bike up, but can you put some numbers to that?

The only thing I can find says the thrux can run a 13.2 1/4 mile stock, what kinda numbers, acceleration wise, can you expect after removing the airbox, rejetting, and pipes??

A sidenote: My dad just got a 1200 sportster and after feeling that things torque, well, as Borat would put it, Very Nice.

Thanks for any replies,

Other Motorcycle: There are other bikes?
You and I are in the same boat (you have about 200 more miles on your bike than I do). I couldnt find any hard actual numbers so I did it anyway. Basically you are adding 6-10 horse for the airbox removal, upgraded pipes and AI removal and new jets. You also drop a few pounds when you get this stuff off your bike. You can do it yourself fairly cheaply (there are threads all over here for this) or you can pick up some kits and do it.

I feel the difference. I can't tell you what my gain is, but just 50 miles in without all that crap holding me back is completely worth it.

I'm not done yet, but I'm done enough until the bad weather starts.

Just listen to this:

Thanks for any replies,
Yes you can expect about 10 RWHP gain or 16-18% with ARK, good free flow exhaust, and correct jetting. Some have claimed more but this seems to be a good average from all the dyno runs posted and my own personal experience at the dyno runs on bikes at the local dealership.

I did the TORs , wrapped the pipes , A Bellmouth and K&N , 127.5 rejet and got about a 7-8 hp gain . And went from 125 miles to reserve to about 90 . From that I went down to a 125 rejet and maybe lost a 1/2 to 1 hp but gained torque and from 90 miles to 110-115 miles till reserve.
I've heard the airbox removal would give me 2 more hp but would have worse fuel economy . I guess I thought it wouldn't be worth the 2 hp gain if I'm stopping for gas every 2 hours when I ride .

If you like the low and midrange torque of the sporty, here's what I did.
I drilled six 3/8" holes down through the end of the muffler and the inner plate, about 3 inches in. I picked out the fiberglass packing.....free. I fitted the Dynojet kit....85 bucks. I added the Pingel fuel valve, but that was to cure a mechanical problem....85 bucks. I removed the AI system, plugged the holes in the air box, and cut off the tube on the injector and plugged the threaded part, and reinstalled it....free.
Bike will now idle at ridiculous low rpms, if I want. Transitions dead smooth from idle. Sounds mellow, but low. Has a lot more torque and a bit more top end. Fuel economy got slightly better. For the price, its a deal. Makes a good "first step" to get a good baseline on future mods.

Do It Do It So It

With tips from the pros here I just finished my air box removal and it was RIDICULOUSLY worth it. I bought a $10 stock airbox off od eBay, K&N's for $70, an $8 breather tube filter, $8 in jets from a local dealer, sockets for the rear axle, and a borrowed torque wrench and it's a completely different bike. I'm now at 42 pilots, 142.5 mains, one shim, and 2.5 turns out -- the bike SCREAMS, is wicked torquey through the midrange, and I haven't noticed any significant change in fuel economy. Nothing put positives all around.

I only have butt dyno numbers measured in duration of post-ride smile, I think I'm at 72 hours of smiles over 100 miles of riding. The only thing I'm fiddling with is the main, I'm ONLY 98% satisfied at WOT, but I'll tinker with that on a ride-by-ride basis through the fall I'm sure. Changing jets at this point is easier than finding and putting on clean socks.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies,

I like those D&D's, but I think I like the preds better, hard to tell without actually hearing them in person

I think that's what I'll end up doin is letting the bike breathe, speaking of which, anybody know what happened to britishcustoms package deal with everything together for a discounted price?
