Question Thruxton Resale?

Well after a year, I decided to sell my Thrux. I just don't ride it enough and I recently decided to get go to school for my master's in the spring.
Anyway, it is an '04 and has just under 3000 miles. The only mods are TORs and a clip-on replacement. I did a blue book search and found one listing an avg retail of $5300 an another of $6000. I listed it for $5600, fully thinking that somebody would try to talk me down a few hundered dollars (oh, and i just spent $230 getting it fully serviced ).
So far I have two people interested. One is a guy trying to scrape together an offer and he managed to come up with about $4900.
Guy number 2 has owned an America and a Speedmaster and tells me that Thuxtons don't hold their resale value and that it is only worth $5k in his opinion. I have looked and I can't find a 04 Thrux listed anywhere for $5k.

Maybe this is the wrong group of folks to ask since ya'll might be a tad biased , but do Thruxtons hold their value well relative to other Triumphs or even other bikes? Or is this guy blowing smoke?

I will probably end up waiting to see what happens- the ad has only been out for 3 days.

Resale

An item is worth what someone is willing to pay, however, given the low mileage of your bike and the fact that, there have been no changes since it was introduced in 2004. I think your asking price is fair. Overall the triumphs hold their value pretty well. Your response to the buyer should be, you might find a cheaper 2004 but not a nicer one for the price and try and meeet in the middle around 5300. My 2cents worth. It would cost him 8-9 k to get a new one out the door and it is the same bike.-T1

I wouldn't know. By the time I am ready to sell mine, it will be worth more than I paid for it. When was the last time you saw a restored Bonnie going for $1500?

Smile Trick question...

I bought my NEW 2005 Thruxton for $6200...It was a left over and purchased in the dead of winter 06.

In my opinion the Thruxton is the best value in the Bonneville series...The better brakes, aluminum rims, tachometer, rear set pegs, better intake tract, better exhaust path...etc...
You can easily standardize it or scramblerize it.

Also in my opinion...the resale value on the series is low.

The bikes are simply not in great demand.

Kids want the wheelie popping 200mph crotch rocket, baby boomers want a big ass Harley...and only a comparatively small segment of the market wants a Bonneville…and an even smaller group a Thruxton.

So, if I were you….I would customize/comfortize to your tastes and ride it till it dies which is unlikely!

He's blowing smoke. I got rock bottom deal on my Thrux, but it wasnt a pretty/shining example of one when I bought it either. I never listen to someone's opinion of my item when they're looking to buy it - it's biased. BTW, you stated the obvious ... it's been 3 days. Have some patience and understand it's a niche market. When I sold my last Ninja ZR6R (a very popular sportbike) - I priced it very acceptable and it still took a couple months for it to sell. I got a bunch of calls, but the 2nd person that actually came to see it ... bought it without even haggling the price. Good luck.

What's different on the intake tract?

I thought that all of the Thrux's, Bonnies and Scrambler have the same air box and carb setup. The only differences that I'm aware of were that the carbs had different needles.

Yes,,I've noticed they do hold value..but it is on the back side of Summer and the cycle market is like the boat and swimming pool market....it is hotter in the spring and tend to be more of a buyers market as the year progresses. However that being said....the guys at our old moto shop said they noticed that when the BMW's , Ducks & Guzzi's dropped off the Triumphs remained strong and in fact picked up a little in the Fall & Winter...........

They do hold value

If you are going to sell your better off to sell in the spring though when everyone is looking to ride again.

He is right, it is harder to sell when your closer to winter and the demand is less for any bikes right now so they will try to haggle the hell out of you

not bad, but hold out for a better offer

$5000 isn't bad - consider the facts that it is basically 4 model years old, it is near the end of riding season, and the thruxton is the least popular of the not-so-popular (in relative terms to other makes) modern classics lineup. If you can afford to, definitely wait until April to sell it. Also, I'd consider selling it on eBay. I sold a bike in about 72hrs. If you don't want the hassle of shipping, just specify that.

As for Thruxtons of what I've seen are so so . A well seviced on like you apparently have should be able to sell pretty firm privately. If you have all your records and receipts the good buyer would give you what you're asking .

jkieler -If you are going to sell your better off to sell in the spring though when everyone is looking to ride again.

That above what jkeiler stated is very true.
