Removing a Bonneville rear grab rail.

I just got a 2015 Bonneville, and I love everything about it except for the ugly grab rail that goes around behind the seat. They're telling me it's not removable, but I think that everything is removable, it just depends on how bad you want it removed. It's ugly, and I don't need it, so it's got to go. Since the Thruxton and Scrambler use the same frame, and they don't have the grab rail, there must be a way. It does appear to be welded to the seat base part of the frame, so I may just have it cut off. Has anyone else come up with a solution, or am I the only one that wants to do this?

It still does have the 4 bolts under the seat, but they said it is required for the shock mount bolt to tighten up the shock. I have loosened the 4 under the seat, and the shock bolt, but the bar doesn't move where the shock bolt goes thru, it appears to be welded at that end. I can feel behind the shock bolt and I don't feel a nut or anything, so it may have threads in the bar that it tightens to? Just guessing, but that's what it seems like to me.

I can't really get a clear view to take a pic of how it mounts, but you can see it in my Avatar pic, and the stock pics on Triumph's website.

It mounts with the shock bolt, I assume mine is longer? (Shock bolt that is, lol) I'd sell you mine if I could just get the dang thing off!

AHA! I will check that out, and watch that video when I get home tonight, thanks for the help!

The one in the video is a two piece dresser bar/grab rail, so remove the grab rail from the equation. I figured they would have both mounted the same way at the back side of the shock mount.

This is the one in the video:

Perhaps this is the one you have?

Either way, they should both mount the same way behind the rear shock mount.

Yes, that is the one I have. They were actually able to remove it during my first service, and without cutting it! It turns out that it doesn't have anything to do with the shock bolt, it mounts to the inside of the frame in front of the rear shocks, and they just unbolted it. It looks much better, IMO.

To remove this grab bar you will need to remove the fender first (4 bolts). I didn't disconnect the wiring, rested it on the rear tires, helps to have an extra hand. Once the fender is removed you can access the star bolts behind the shocks. Simple removal, takes about 10 minutes. Tools needed are t27 and t40 torx.
