Has anyone fitted these tyres on the standard 18" and 17" rims, in stock 100x90 and 130x80 sizes. If so, what levels of grip can be expected for fast road use, and possibly the odd track day?

Hi Rob, just logged on to search for threads on tyres and first thing I see is your post - spooky.

No experince on the Thruxton, but know BT45's to be excellent on smaller bikes (CBR 400 Aero).

Looking forward to seeing some replies to your post as I am in 2 minds as whether to follow you with non Metzler stock sizes or go down the 110/80, 150/70 route. :???:

Those tires worked ok on my Bonnie,it came stock with them [19" front]. Matter of fact, they are still mounted to my stock rims,in a box in my garage. The Avon Azaro`s on the bike now are much stickier, don`t follow rain grooves and seem to wear just as well, with plenty of tread left at 6600+ miles. Just not sure if they make a 130 rear. :???:

I run BT45's on my sportster and on my GSX750es. I've been using them for years and have no problems with them. They are grippy enough for me, wear well and are cheaper than Metzlers.

Cheers,

Brett

Rob,
I have had 110/80-18 and 150/70-17 BT 45s' on my Thruxton

the front was ok, good grip and lasted 11,000km the rear was a wallowing p.o.s from day one and got worse as the tire wore and lasted only 4,500 kms.

BT 45 rears are a dual compound tire, ie hard centre softer edges, this transition from hard to soft made the handling of the bike unstable.

Dont know if anyone else has had this problem with BT 45s'

Cheers..................agro

I know this doesn't answer your question, but why not just go to a 17" front wheel and select a real tire?
