Here's my bike with open headers:

It is so loud it totally overdrove the mic, btw open headers sound like hammered sh!t on these bikes, and they run equally bad.

We have ALL done it before installing our new cans. The sound is loud, unpleasantly shrill and guts the low end of the powerband due,I`m guessing,to the lack of back pressure. I`m experimenting with some different ideas to get back the backpressure and get a decent tone.

Don`t worry Ski,these are only experimental. I hear Preds sound pretty good, but my "stock" Thrux cans drown them out. :-D

Yeah open headers, very embarrassing with all the back fire. You won't even impress Rednecks! Gas mileage 90 to a tank not a good idea. It is just loud with no tone or guts. I'm a poor lil white girl on a budget. I'm a firm believer in loud pipes save lives.
I purchased Emgo 12'' shorty pipes thinkin' those should be the loudest on the market and leaving the baffles in should give it tone & fix the pop. NO they are not that loud? Weird! They pop less, which is muffled through the baffles so it is not that noticable.

Opinions welcome on the Emgo. I don't like them yet, don't know if I will. Thanks
