I followed the procedure from the Haynes manual, but in hindsight, it seems that the top covers (and the diaphragm, needle, etc) could have been left alone.

Did I really need to remove those parts, or could the rejetting be correctly performed working from the bottom only?

One of the threads I read suggested adding a shim, and that was the only reason to go in from the top. And to replace the screws with allen head screws.
