SCCTrim,
Thanks for the delphi link. I wasn't disputing the claims of one particular carb, more the vague "carbs make power...period" No, dyno's don't lie, but sometimes need to be qualified. The HSR carbs produce more power, but do they produce max power, all other things being equal? How would the Keihin 39mm FCR carbs compare on the same engine? Or a Mikuni TM40?

I have no personal experience with the FCR's...the Mik's I bought have been tested both on the street as well as the track, and the gain's were proven on a 3rd party independant dyno.

That was the primary reason for me choosing the Mik's. The reason I didnt go with CR's or another 35/36mm carb is that it's the same size carb as I already had on the bike. Granted there would be big difference's in performance ( cvk versus flat slide )...point taken on velocity of the charge.

More air, more fuel, more power...

If your intrested in a alternative carb setup, Dinqua over at BonnevilleAmerica.com is currently setting up his big bore speedy with 36mm Mik's...

I've no regret's with the 42's....the difference is night and day.

How do you set up the throttle linkages for the 42s? An old style one into two system? I might try them if I can find them at a decent price.

Bonneville Performance Carb Kits include barnett cables, new grips, joker machine throttle housing, airbox removal, billet intakes, pod filters, 2 carbs, carb bottom and top braces, and a shaft. They are assembled, and tested prior to shipping.

It's a excellent kit, but it isnt cheap.

To be honest I would never consider increasing the power further (currently 70 rwhp) until someone offers a custom gearbox.

what's wrong with the gearbox? It will handle anything you throw at it.

That legendary sought after 6th gear :P. Am already running a 19t sprocket but she is still screaming for another shift up at the top end when I am riding with a buddie on his ducati sport classic.

The little baby motors pretty well up to top whack already, but once shes there thats it.

I could have a smaller rear sprocket, but I dont want to keep dipping the clutch more around town when the traffic comes close to a crawl (something which I already have to put up quite often)

My 19/41 set up does not require dipping the clutch around town. There is plenty of torque, the motor is a *****cat in town. Give it a try, a rear sprocket doesn't cost much. You won't regret it.

Tomorrows the big day - I collect the Thruxton with the 39mm FCR's fitted, then take the bike to the dyno guy who will be lightening the flywheel and checking the fuelling. I will post the dyno results after the Easter holiday.

i have been thinking about carbs for awhile. i have done a ton of research in the meantime. i have also sent numerous emails to few different vendors. my conclusion is this. it first came downt o who to buy from. bonneville performance may be pricey, but i have always got INSTANT replys to my questions with no running around my questions. he also gave me his number to call him direct. other vendors have tried to sell me there product in there answers instead of answering the question i asked. when i decided i would go with the 42's i did a ton of reading on them. seems like a great carb that when set up right will still get good mileage, instant throttle response, and is basically a set it and forget it carb. i have not seen any issues with failing or mechanical problems. so my mind got made up, and it doesent hurt that even after you have the product if you ever have a rpoblem the guy who set it up is only a phonecall away and is more than willing to help.
