Yup...more wiring issues. I just got a fender removal kit from NewBonneville and while it looks awesome I'm having a problem with the brake/tail light. I didn't have any problem getting the turn signals or the tail light installed and working, I just can't seem to get the tail light to work 100% of the time.

I've got the tail light grounded to one of the bolts that the light bracket is mounted with. Grounding to the bracket seems to be mandatory as anywhere else I tried gave 0% results. The light works some of the time and when it's not working all I usually have to do is tap the bracket and it comes on. I've filed the paint off the sleeve the bolt goes through, used connection cleaner, tightened the mounting, loosened the mounting, tried left bolt, tried right bolt - nothing seems to work 100%.

Problem is I can't tell if its on or not when I'm riding - call me a safety freak but I prefer having a tail and brake light.

Any suggestions?

Did you try reversing the wires that connect to the harness from the brake light? According to the instructions they are sometimes reversed by the supplier. They were for mine.

Anytime I get asked about "ground issues," I say the same thing - Keep the rubber side down... Then I realized you were talking about electrical problems.

Check the wiring connections - is there a bare wire that might be touching metal (or close to touching another metal piece)? You might be creating a short somewhere.

I didn't because when the light is on it works correctly. I'll try it though - we've got 5 days of rain so I'll be tinkering and wrenching anyway. Good thing is, when the rain stops all the salt and sand from this winter will be gone :-D

Yeah probably not it but worth a shot. The problem mine had was that it would just have the running light. Pull the brake and it wouldn't get brighter.

The taillight (Lucas Style) grounds through contact with the frame, I found this less than reliable and made a ground wire that comes from the wiring harness to one of the bolts on the back of the tailight bracket. this has worked well.

not sure if this will help ....but i think i read somewhere the bulb socket may be the culprit. they are not made to OEM specs so the bulb doesn't sit properly to make proper connection..might want to check that...take the lens off and wiggle the bulb

I soldiered a wire to the out side of the bulb socket for the ground, then put some heat shrink over it..

I didn't use the NB kit but this was exactly the problem I had with the Lucas type light I purchased. I ended up cutting out the stock bulb holder, (yes I agree I trashed a perfectly good tail light) and using Pratley epoxy to fix it to the new light bracket. No further problems.
