To you guys who have polished your fork lowers. What method did you use to remove the black powder coating?

Paint stripper tears the hyde right off of them forks. I used a brand called "Dad's" - Ace Hardware here in the states.

I don't think its powder coat because some spray on paint stripper from home depot took it right off.

A couple of tips on stripping the forks:

-Remove them from the bike to avoid a nasty mess
-Wrap the upper tube (the shinny one) with cellophane wrap or blue painter's masking tape to avoid any scratches
-Mask-off the oil seal with duct tape. I personally mask around the very top 1/8" of the lower tube (the black one) which leaves a little ring of paint, but is ultimately covered up if you are using gaiters or the stock stone guard.
-Use a stiff bristle brush such as a dish washing brush from the dollar store to help scrape loose the dissolved paint.
-Work outdoors in a well ventilated area as paint stripper can be nasty stuff.

I am going to take them apart and put new seals in them when I go to do mine next winter. A little preventive maintenance never hurts....
