Let me start off by saying...if you plan on doing the rear fender elimination, and you are thinking about getting the kit to do it, then do it! I must be a complete moron, but I tried to make my own brackets and wire everything myself. I was able to make the hardware, and I soldered all the new turn signal wires, new tail light wires, etc.

Anyway....bottom line is it doesn't work. Tail light works, but no break light, and no turn signals. When I tried the signals, I got this loud buzzing noise from the rear, like a relay or something. I checked all the fuses, they are all good. Now when I try the signals, there are no blinkers or buzzing. Did I blow something? Also...the horn isn't working now either.

Here is how I wired the aftermarket signals and tail light:

front signals: white on bike to white/black on signal, black on bike to black on signal

left rear signal: orange on harness to black/white on signal and black on harness to black on signal

Right rear signal: brown on harness to white/black on signal, black on harness to black on signal

Rear tail light: red on harness to red on tail light, blue on harness to black on tail light, black on harness to ground.

I pretty much copied what that the stock lights looked like. I figured this was easy to do, and it was, and it was especially easy to screw up too.

I checked all my solder connections, they are good and strong and all the solder joints are covered in shrink tube, so no wires are touching.
I'm lost....I should have just bought the kit. Would have been worth it. :???:
Please help if you have any insight on this.

If you used LED blinkers, they don`t present enough load by themselves to work right. You will need some resistors. The blue wire at the back is the brake light, red is tailight as you said. But most aftermarket lights don`t use any standard wire colors. You may need to switch them around. And,if you made metal brackets that are bolted to the frame, you probably don`t need the black Triumph wires, which are ground wires also. Many lights ground through their body to metal, but the Bonnie rear fender is isolated and won`t make a ground path to the frame.
Sorry for the ramble. Just don`t get flustered. It WILL work.

weird i chopped my removed/chopped my rear fender yesterday and it went perfectly smoothly.

i didn't use any LED's though.

Rear tail light: red on harness to red on tail light, blue on harness to black on tail light, black on harness to ground.

should be wired like this:
Red wire on the light goes to the blue on the harness. Black on the light goes to the Red on the harness. Black on the harness goes to the mounting bolt of the light for ground.

The light I used is a standard type lucas style light. It is NOT an LED unit.
I have no rear fender at all. Its gone. So I didn't ground to the fender. I tried to ground on my homemade tag and tail light bracket. Everything is attached to steel. So i don't need the black ground wires?

let me get this straight...on the tail light I was supposed to do it opposite, right?
Okay, no problem.

Also in front....the aftermarket signal's wires are white/black and black. I soldered the white/black to white on the bike and the black to the black on the bike.
These signals are just like the one's that come with the "new bonnville" kit, except that they are brushed steel instead of chrome. Infact, all the components I used are the standard fare...nothing weird.
Does my front set up sound right? BTW- the horn and relay not working was a blown fuse.
I'll tackle it all again tomorrow. Any further input is most appreciated!!!
-Ben

I couldn't get mine to work without using the stock ground wire either. So, basically just use the stock ground.

ya, the color coding of the wires is counter intuitive. It confused me so you shouldn't feel dumb. I recommend beer.

Not to boost the thread...but while you guys are on it any one know what they are and where one can get the front directional 2 port electrical connectors from?

I am adding some LED front blinkers and wanted to retain the stock connectors if possible.

Okay...after much trial and error. Problem solved. Turns out, on my bike the wires are opposite for the rear tail light than what most people have. The red is my tail light and blue is my brake light.
As far as blinkers. I had wired them backwards. I had wired my harness power to my blinker ground. So they weren't working. When I finally figured it all out. It still wasn't working right, only one side's blinkers worked. Turns out, on my thruxton the two front blinkers were wired backwards from the factory. The white wire on the right blinker was power and the black one was power on the left blinker. Once I sorted that out I had the proper turn signals.
I even made an underseat protector out of an old compuer case cut up to fit. Looks great. And I'm relieved its over. Thanks for the help
