I like the 5 speed, every time I ride my brother's SV650 (6 speed) it feels like it has one too many gears...then I get on my bonnie and it's just right.

The only reason for a six speed that I can see is if I were to install some road race cams, with lots of overlap and long duration, making for a narrow power band (and the high compression pistons to match). Otherwise, with a large displacement twin, you have enough torque to pull the jump in gears. The gears would have to be narrowed to squeeze in another set, and I don't know if that would necessarily affect durability.

Well, at least a taller 5th gear would be nice, at least 1:1 if not overdrive. It would be nice for longer distances, the mundane HWY rides...

I have changed my front sprocket from an 18 to a 19 tooth and rear sprocket from a 43 to a 41 tooth. These mods reduced the revs considerably at motorway (freeway) speeds without sacrificing accelleration (with my modified engine).

6 gears would be nice, I could go to a 16T front sprocket to haul my fat azz around and have the same highway rpm.

I think the Six speed would help greatly on the fuel economy on the highway maybe get us into the 50's instead of my upper end 30'snull

Robnobrakes, I have the same engine mods done to my bonneville t100 (at bob farnhams tuning), although I am using a 19t sprocket, I would love to have taller gearing at the top end, because I fear if I reduce the rear sprocket it will sacrifice the ridability around town.

Ideally id love to have closer gearing, with more gears but whatever the setup it will always be a compromise for me because my riding involves so many different types of road ie highway, around town, very twisty lanes, country roads etc.
