Hello everybody. I'm Bert, just registered but followed this forum for a while.
This boards have been very informative and helpfull to what I want for my futur Thruxton machine etc. Although I will have technical questions in the futur I spare you all. (for now that is :-D )

paint question=>
A friend and also futur motorcyclist is quite handy with an airbrush. But he has one problem. He uses some kind of plastic foil to cut out his "pictures/forms" before airbrushing them. But it only works on flat surfaces. He doesn't know what to use to nicely cover round surfaces like a helmet or a fueltank. Does someone know what product / foil you best use?

(sry for crapy english, I hope the question is clear)

Greets, Bert

How complicated of a design do you want to be painted? 3M's blue plastic tape, which is less than 1/4" thick, is great for masking on a non-flat surface such as a fender or tank. It kind of stretches and can be used to get some fine lines. Then use masking tape or something to cover up the rest of the area not to be painted.

Birdman, The 3M fine line tape that Oldskool is talking about is great for any detailed masking. That is what we use in my shop. I am sure you can get it or something similar from any automotive paint store or supplier.

Hi Bert,

When are you going to buy your Thruxton? and where? I'm going to 'Burger' in Deurne to order mine tomorow if everything goes right.
And where in Antwerp are you from? I live in the center, just behind the zoo.... Would be nice to cruise around with a couple of thruxtons in belgium. They are hard to spot around here.

And to answer your question... I'm an illustrator, and there are artists supply stores in Antwerp (schleiper on the Belgiƫlei and Papermill at the 'begijnevest') They sell special rubber-like paint specially for airbrush. Don't know the name, but it's easy to use. Just paint it on the surfaces that need to be masked.... spray your airbrush... and when fully dry, just rub the remaining compound away. Easy as that.

If you have questions about the stores, or like to meet someday.... you can allways reach me on dimitripaeleman@telenet.be
