Besides the F3 fork mod, I'm wondering what some of you think is the second best option?

I'd like to do the F3 thing but it seems they are getting rarer and rarer so I'm trying to find a decent alternative.

Do the Racetech cartridge emulators; about $150.

SCC, are you suggesting that I buy the stock ones and do my work on those in case I bone something up?
Which is probably a good idea

As far as performance, does anyone know how far off from the F3 mod the emulators and some new Ikon springs would be?

Not suggesting that at all, only suggested as a alternative to the f3' tubes as you'll at least have some adjustment.

I can tell you there's a world of difference between the f3 mod with racetech gold valves and ikon springs. The spring's are a bonus over the stock setup, but the f3 mod is sweet man.

I've been running the F3 forks and race tech Gold Valves for 3 years now and love them. I have also heard very good things on the emulators but have no personal experience. Check ebay often - the F3 forks come up all the time.
My total for the front end was 450.00 - forks F3, gold valves, race tech springs and seals, dust caps, fork oil.

I just finished changing to f3 forks. I found forks on ebay for 150, reused my low milage oil and dust seals, put a bottle of stock honda oil in each fork and I couldn't be happier. If your trying to do the job on the cheap you can wait till later to change to better springs and gold valve and you'll only be out the oil and fresh oil never hurts

F3 forks are not that easy to come by in South Africa. I went for Traxxion cartridge emulators and custom Hagon springs. The change together with the Hagon Nitro rears is remarkable. So okay you can only adjust the damping by taking the forks apart and that's a pain. But if you're not racing the bike seriously on a whole lot of different tracks in different conditions with different tyres you don't need infinitely adjustable forks. Get it right once and you're done. The settings recommended by Traxxion were almost spot on for me - I only made one adjustment. And to be fair the Thruxton frame and geometry has limitations. You really don't need Rolls-Royce forks. The stockers do suck though and I thoroughly recommend the Traxxion emulators.

I read posts on here all the time about F3 forks for $150 bucks but the two sets I last looked at on ebay had both been bid up past $300. I called a local bike wrecker who had some forks in stock and he wanted over $400!

So much for the fork mod...
