I was wondering if anyone has installed the newbonneville thunderbike cams? Looking at the dyno sheet thay look peaky. The power appears to come on above 5k.

2 emails from me - not even asking specs - just told em what I was doing and asked how they thought their cams would fit in with my engine project - not a single response.

Lightning-If your referance is to my post - I have not been in contact with Brent, but trying to contact Thunderbike directly. I have talked to Brent about the cams and he has sold 8 or so sets, but has heard no feedback. I want info directly fro the manufacture - Brent probably does not know how the cams would affect my specific motor mods.

Theres been alot of discussion about cams in the recent past on this board and others as well. The first question to ask yourself is where do you want the power? You either want it on top of the rpm range, or down low to mid-range.

There will always be a sacrifice either direction you choose. Between the 790/865 motors there isn't alot of difference..( 360* motors )..when riding the 2.

There are difference's in the cam timing interval's however. The 790 360* motors tend to make a little more grunt on top because of the valve overlap, while the 865 360* motors tend to make a little more grunt down low.

Now, theres all sort's of option's for you. 790cc motor with the exhaust cam advanced 1 tooth which gives you a valve overlap in between the stock 790/865 motor..( I did this mod and can attest to the difference felt by the seat of the pant's )...or for the 865 motor keep the stock intake cam and swap out the exhaust for a stock 790 exhaust cam...( I believe this is supposed to offer the best of both worlds )..

You could also take the 865 motor and retard the exhaust cam 1 tooth I suppose to accomplish the opposite of advancing the exhaust cam 1 tooth on the 790 motor. I don't know of anyone that has done this to date.

Lot's of options...

The short answer to your question is no one has produced dyno result's on a independent testers dyno to produce verifiable increases over stock regarding after-market cams.

If they have I'm unaware of it.

here's the real answer:

If you have the $1000 to spend on cams, spend it on a big bore or carbs instead. More power everywhere, guaranteed.

Look at their dyno sheets, and then look at your riding style.

How often are you over 5,000 RPMs? How bad do you want a couple of extra horses there?

Me, not $1,000 bad.
