I dont have a Thrux yet but I'm looking . ANyway I was thinking about the New Bonnies and Thruxt and how, though sometimes a pain, cool would it be to have a kickstart. Is there a kit that lets you put that old kickstart on a new bike?

I seem to remember a post ages ago about this and IIRC there was something about the electronic ignition on the Hinkley models that would preclude you from using a kicker, because a kicker would not turn over the motor enough times for the ignition to fire.

Anyone ?

I have to admit that it would be cool, but I have a kick-start on my Ural that I never use.
Electric legs RULE!

That'd only be cool for about the first week, methinks.

I can see the novelty wearing off even earlier than that.

Cheers,

Brett

since these bikes are right side drive, I don't think there is anywhere to mount the kicker, unless it was on the output shaft/sprocket somehow. And like Wombat said, if the ignition fires on the second time the motor turns over it would take like 100 kicks to start it each and every time, if you're lucky.

kickstarts are for looks purely. They are completely impractical for modern use. I am so glad I dont have to kick that beast over like my old bikes! It does seem a little girly to press a button, but at least your not sweating to start the old girl.

cheers, jason

Agree on the "looks" part. Visually, a bike without a kickstarter just seems to be missing something, especially a "retro" bike like the Bonnie. But there's no way in Hell I'd bolt a fake one on.

I actually miss my kick start on my bike. However all the bikes that had an electric leg also. If a kicker was the sole means of starting the bike I would not feel that way.

It is my understanding that US (and possibly EU) type approval bans kickstarts on bikes 750cc and over on the grounds of safety.

IMHO, they came out with electric starters for a reason.
