Can you guys help someone who doesn't have the range of options available in the developed world? Getting a bigger rear rim or a 17" front rim simply isn't an option.

My stock Metzlers have been great for 10,000km and still have something left. Soon I'll have to replace them (hopefully) with something stickier but I'm limited to the stock rims. The "wide look" or or great mileage is not critical for me, grip and "flick-ability" are. On the Thruxton, with its heavy weight, "old-style" geometry, low power, and low C of G, my feeling is that going too wide may compromise "flick-ability" so I'd prefer a a relatively narrower tyre. So I guess what I'd like is a 100 or 110/80-18 front and 140 or 150/70 -17 rear. (Doubt that anyone would make a 140/70 - 17 though....) Ideally: sticky outside, harder in the middle. I can't find a Pirelli, or Avon set to fit the bill. Can anyone offer advice or a solution? Given that my ideal solution probably doesn't exist, what other suggestions? Many thanks.

Pirelli Sport Demons, Stock sizes, Sticky as 'ell, I love 'em. I've played around with 140/70 rear & 110 on front, but prefer stock sizes, quicker handling, lighter feel, check out this pic of the rear after some 100 mph sweepers. I'm on my 4th set and see no need to switch!

With the limited cornering clearance the thruxton has, any modern tire will give you WAY more traction than you need. There is no way you'll slide even the stock Metzlers, unless your hard on the brakes way late in the turns. Hard parts will hit far before you reach the limits of traction. :-D

Those Pirellis have a good reputation. Also, I've been happy with my Metzler LaserTecs. My bike had Bridgestones as stock...they were absolutely terrible. Stick with one of the better brands. Avon offers the Supervenom in Thruxton sizes. I cannot vouch for this particular tire, but I have used Avons with satisfaction on other bikes...
