I have been thinking about changing my side covers from the original color. The jerk offs over at Triumph just had to give us plastic ones and I really want them to be the same color as my engine plates (brushed aluminum I believe). Have any of you played with this or will I have to get myself some metal side covers?

I have ordered a sample kit of this stuff. It's meant for kitchens but paint is paint is paint. I'm skeptical, but it could be cool. Besides the sample kit was only $9, plus $9 shipping and handling. I'll let you know how it works out.

I don't plan on painting my sidecovers but it could be cool for something else. It'd look sweet on a tank.

I picked up some metal side covers just to play around and figure out what to do with em. Haven't come up with anything as of yet.

I just made some up recently, they are not metal, they are plastic, but they let plenty of air in to my carbs, and look quite racy. I will get some pics up soon, still waiting on getting my seat back.

cheers, jason

Speaking of Side Covers, I got bored in the garage last night and trimmed down my covers to expose more of the K&N Filters.

Filed and sanded down the cut, then painted it black, then put some clear lacquer on it. Came out pretty good I think.

Sorry for the thread hijack Whitehurst. :-D

I put a parts wanted ad here on the site looking for a set of metal ones (they used to be metal on the bonnevilles) and bought a set from Hogtied. I don't know what year they began switching from metal to plastic, but at one point the fenders and side cover where metal on the bonnevilles. The thrux were always plastic except the rear fender. The chromed metal ones show up on fleabay about every 3 months at a decent price as well. I never checked with the dealer - there is an outside chance they may be able to get metal covers (other than the chrome) as replacement - but it would be expensive I'm sure.

John - those did turn out nice - You have done something similar to what I want to do - trim down the covers a little in nice flowing lines.

graciejohn, Those turned out very nice. Slightly off topic but do the stock side covers limit the amount of air to the filters with an airbox removal like that? The reason I say this is alot of modern sportbikes go to great effort to get a ram air effect throught the front end and I think that having the air intake where it is seems to limit the amount of airflow into the engine. To the point I am daydreaming about making some sort of scoops to increase airflow if it would help.
