Today I took a day off work to get my Speedmaster down to the dealer for it's routine 20kk service.

The service guy asked if I needed a bike for the day, obvious answer,

Yes, what have you got?

You will have to take the Thruxton, that OK?

COOOOL, I have been looking at them for a while, longing to go for a ride.

When do you want it back?

4.30pm is good, as late as possible, so your bike will be ready....

Trying to keep the grin from looking like a kid in the candystore, I calmly rode her home, I had to take my daughter out. But after that I'm free for the day.

Filled up the tank and headed off to my favourite ride, Tamborine Mountain. Felt a bit awkward on the bike, a bit different to my Speedy. Had to get used to the peg position, the clipons and the seat is like a plank compared to mine.

I gotta say it is a fun bike, very easy to ride and plenty of go. Must have non stock pipes as this baby is LOUD, much louder than my Speedy with aftermarket cans?

The constabulary put and end to my fun, they were everywhere. I went through 4 speed traps and passed 2 on the road dammit! I had to be sensible....

Had a great little ride on a beaut bike. I don't think I will ever buy one, afterwards I felt like I had been riding a bronco. Sore ass, goolies, back and arms, even my cheeks hurt from smiling. Had great fun but this wrinkly old body needs an armchair to sit in. If I was a bit younger then definitely would have bought one...very cool.

I put it in my shed for a rest after my ride, pretending it was mine.

the position takes some getting used to. When I first sat on a Thrux a little over a year ago I wanted nothing to do with it. I thought it looked really cool, and felt cool but I felt it would get uncomfortable quickly. I'd never ridden a 'sport' bike before, so I bought the Bonnie.

Fast forward 14 months, the Bonnie has M bars that are in nearly the exact same position as are the Thrux's clip ons, and I've ordered rear sets. The riding position will be identical, if not a tad more extreme, as the Thrux.

Oh well, a natural progression.

I really like the look of the Speedmaster and will book a test ride on my dealers demonstrator when the weather improves over here. I don't think I would get away with another bike in the garage though, from 'She Who Must Be Obeyed'. Maybe if I don't get on with the Guzzi I could exchange it for one.

I had a Speedmaster, then a Sprint ST, and now the Bonneville.

For casual riding I enjoyed the feet-forward position of the Speedy, but not in the twisties. The Sprint ST was great in the twisties, but not for casual, long rides. The Bonneville "fits" me just right.

Binnsy, what condition is your Healey in? I had a 100-6 many years ago. Best sounding car I ever owned, when the SUs were right!

Binnsy, but the Thrux looks so at home in your garage! Maybe your Speedy needs a traveling companion of some type.

Its an MGB and I drive it frequently, it is registered for road use.. Good fun for the days you need four wheels. As for the carbys, they are a pain and so is the blooming fuel pump, last time out I had a fuel fountain happening under the bonnet, but was fixed in the shopping centre carpark with my Leatherman.

I agree fully, but my wife just gives me "the look" when I mention it ...
