Once again I am close to pulling the trigger on used Thrux. Intent is to use for track days and maybe the Thrux Cup. Heard from the guy riding the runner up bike that suspension mods don't seem to do a lot at the track - basically suspension sucks, but everyone is on a level playing field so it doesn't matter. I would say he was full of it except he obviously was quite successful.

Who has done mods to their suspension - front and-or rear and what did you notice once pressed hard on the track. It's easy to dump over $1,000 into front, rear suspension, but is it a waste of money?

Dunno yet, tell you when my $1000 work of supension gets here. Went with YSS Racing on the rears and Works for the fronts. Still figuring out exactly what I want to do for a steering dampener.

But the last time I did all this on my ZX900R I can tell you for a fact it was worth every dime I spent on it.

If you look at the thrux racers most have aftermarket rear shocks and I know some have the f3 fork conversion. Tires are Avon's for the series. You may be able to ride as quick without doing the suspension work but I am sure you won't go as quick confidently. The bike responds well to improved suspension parts.-T1

Ran last year track days with Hagon Nitros on the rear-worked well. Ran Ikon progressives and stock weight oil on fronts, worked well for track days, but when racing and pushing it hard developed a wallow. Racetech emulators helped, but the most important thing when running a bike this heavy with a flexy frame and swingarm is a very light touch on the bars. Get some tank pads so you can hang off without having a death grip on the bars and your bike will handle fine! :-D

There's a few guys running Nitro's. Before dumping a grand into fork cartridges, conside the Honda F3 swap-out. Thruxtonone pioneered this mod and having ridden his bike on several occasions, I can tell you they work rather well. Plenty of threads in the archive.

Fork Brace... Gary Nixon told me that was the one biggest improvement to the bike's handling. I would also pay particular attention to the subframe connections. I can't tell you how many times I bought a used NTB with those bolts too loose. Neck bearings are another area to watch.

Ride Hard - Brake Late - Go Fast

Brice Cooper was the runner up. He is using Ohlins rear shocks and Traxxion AK20 cartridges in the forks. I don't think you will get away with F3 forks on the front. They are using supersport rules for that class

g) Suspension

1) Rear shock(s) may be modified or replaced. All linkage must remain stock. (Suzuki TL models are allowed to use aftermarket linkage to allow for replacing the stock rotary shock with a standard-style shock.) Front fork springs may be modified or replaced.

2) Fork oil may be changed. Fork caps may be changed. Fork internals may be modified or replaced. Fork braces may be modified or added. Triple clamps may be modified only for the purpose of adding a steering damper.

I know Ted Cobb, the first year winner of the Thruxton Cup, and his bike was on display at the dealership often. It sported Ohlins piggy backs on the rear and the Honda F3 fork conversion up front. Traxxion Dynamics did the set-up on his forks.

Trux-ton-up,

Ohhh cooollll, I stand corrected then. But I'm pretty sure they aren't legal, not sure if the rules changed or not. Because the rules clearly state you can only replace the internals.

F3 forks would be cheaper, thats for sure. And you get them rebuilt by just about anyone.

I'll say one thing Cobb is fast! He attended one our track days a couple of years ago at Road Atlanta. He had no trouble making his thrux fly...

He teaches for Schwantz at Road Atlanta.

It would actually be quite easy to put the honda f3 internals into the triumph fork tubes and then the race tech parts are an easy add to that and you would be within the rules as stated.-T1
