I'm looking into buying a new Davida helmet, but I want something that looks good and is still safe. I really like the Davida Speedster and Ninety-One models. Anyone have any info on these? The Speedster helmet is certified to Nordic Safety Standards SIS 882411 and DS 2124.1 (whatever that means). The Ninety-One is cheaper and has British Safety Standard BS 6658: 1985 Type B certified.

Anyone know the difference in these 2 saftey standards?????

Other Motorcycle: None...dang it.

I don't believe any Davida helmets are DOT certified.

I think I can recall some 'waiver' language, on a US based website that sells Davida, along the lines of "for display use only".

Keep in mind, non certified helmets aren't always 'bad' or 'un-safe', they simply haven't been certified by the manufacturer as meeting DOT standards.

As for me - A Davida sitting on the seat for a photograph is fine, but my head is going in a full-face helmet before the bike goes anywhere.

I googled some info to look into the differant ratings, too much to post here but it seems our DOT standard is "lax" compared to the Euro standards. Regardless do a google search on the standards... Others will chime in..

By the way the Davida Classic Jet meets the DOT standard.

I do wear a 3/4 helmet for events, shows, club gatherings, but if I am heading to the Canyons etc. The Arai Springer goes on my melon.

I looked at the Davida helmets, but had concerns on price for safety. The really retro models (classic) look great, but the impact aborbing material is cork and their website states "The Davida Classic Helmet does not conform to any current helmet safety standards."

The 3/4 Davida helmets (Classic Jet, Ninety-One) do meet various safety standards, but others make 3/4 helmets that cost less and have the more recognizable DOT certification.

I use a Bell half-helmet when commuting or for a retro look. Looks good with goggles:

Check out Davida's website - it's all there. As a non baised no US or UK citizen my understanding is that the Euro standards are stricter than the US standards. Certain of the Davida helmets re Euro certified for racing in the UK so I guess if you choose one of these you should be guaranteed quality. In South Africa we may not use an open face helmet on a race track and frankly it makes sense not to.

I have a JP Helmet....It looks pretty nice, but I wouldnt wear it out on a busy street. The quality of the JP is really lacking as well. I was doing some research on the topic and Euro standards do seem to be stricter than DOT, but the Speedster and Ninety-one still dont conform to the stricter European Standards.

I'm just trying to decide between the Speedster and Ninety-one models. The Ninety-one is cheaper but have to buy from England...(About $150 US), Found the Speedster for $259.
