Does anyone know what the stock exhaust system on the Thruxton weighs? And how does it compare to the D&D, TOR, Predators, and other aftermarket pipes?

It seems like many folks put on aftermarket pipes for the increase in sound, and many for the increase in horsepower and torque. I am not that interested in either of those, but a reduction in overall weight of the bike could lead me to change them.

Also, for a newbie here, what are TOR's? I see them listed all the time but do not know whose brand of aftermarket pipes they are.

Thanks,
-Tim

Tim,TORs are Triumph Off Road pipes. A stock Thrux muffler weighs 5 1/2 lbs. The only other muffler I have around to weigh is a Specialty Spares "peashooter" which looks like a stock Bonnie muffler. It weighs a hair less than 3lbs. For maximum savins,I would guess an open header or TT pipe system would be the lightest.

Thanks for the feedback RodBurner. So the TOR's are something that you buy straight from Triumph?

Are most of the aftermarket systems just cans, not the whole system from the head all the way back?

I am wondering how much weight I could lose if I went with a system from the head all the way back and without the crossover tube.

Thanks,
-Tim

Most of the popular names;Predators,D&D,Emgo etc are just cans. There are a few complete system setups.Raask,Specialty Spares,BuB make systems but I couldn`t say how light any of them are.My homemade 2 into 1 is pretty light compared to the heavy stock Bonnie mufflers, probably 10lbs total. The switch to mags and my sawzall have shaved off another 25lbs or so.

The new Epco Peashooters weights 3.8 lbs. (that's the LH muffler with the side/center stand bracket).

I weighed my stock Thruxton mufflers. The total weight of the complete muffler system -- both mufflers, the two band clamps, the two decorative band clamp covers, and all the rubber bushings/bumpers -- was 6760 grams (14.87 pounds). That is quite a bit. Aftermarket mufflers can really save some weight. The bike will never be light, but a little weight trimmed here and there can add up.
