When I go over bumps in the road I hear a knocking noise from the front of the bike. I have looked and looked for something loose but cant find anything.

Has it done this since new? Does it knock on both the upstroke AND downstroke? Can you get it to make the noise if you bounce it with the brake on? If so, get someone to listen for the location of the sound while you bounce. You may be able to narrow it down. Might cost you a couple of beers or a backrub, depends on who you get to do it.

Mine does that as well, on the upstroke when the forks are fully extended. It's only noticable when going over speedbumps.

Cheers,

Brett

Mine has been doing it since new and it is coming from the front end - only when going over speedbumps or when the forks fully extend from having weight on them.

I can't find anything loose and figured it was just a characteristic of the Thruxton, although I 've never had any other bike do this.

Cheers,

Brett

You might want to check inside your head light and make sure none of the wire plastic plugs are hitting the head light bucket. Try stuffing a rag under any connectors just to make sure and see if that helps

Thanks for the advice. I will check all that. It does it when ever I hit any bump in the road. It dosent have to be a big bump. And yes I have tried to bounce up and down and that does not make the noise. Thanks

I noticed the same "knocking noise" over bumps that you mentioned. I checked everything on my Thruxton and finally came to the conclusion that the knocking over bumps that you hear IF everything else checks OK on your bike is the FLOATING FRONT DISK BRAKE...unlike some of the other Triiumph models the Thruxton has a "floating" disk on the front end and if you grab it and shake it up and down when your stopped you will get the same noise. You can see at a glance that a "floating" disk has washers or spacers around the disk holding it in place where it "floats" from the center mount. Solid disks do not have the washers or spacers going around the disk...I don't want to tell you everything is OK with your bike since I am not there to see it but I would bet that is your noise...most high performance disk brakes on motorcycles are the floating disk type...the rear disk on your bike is solid if you want to see the diference...

There are, or at least there are SUPPOSED to be small springs under the damper rods in the forks to take up rebound topping impacts. It's not like the Japanese to leave parts out, but who knows?
Easy to check, you'll need a jack (I use a regular floor jack, for cars), a couple of wrenches and a couple of allens. A larger wrench or an adjustable for the axle. The allen (6mm??) in the bottom, which retains the damper rod in the lower leg is often tight, so this is one of those places where an air or electric impact is handy.
Good mechanical practice would have you change the sealing washers on those damper rod screws, but your bike is so new that it probably won't make any difference. YOu can also make any mods you plan to do now.....like gaiters or progressive springs.......But, making too many intenal changes can blur your results, and that conflicts with the basic human desire to not have to do things twice. Your call on this.

I'll buy you a beer if it turns out NOT to be just your front floating disk chattering over bumps...

let us know what you discover the noise is from...
my bike does the same thing. Some floating disks use tighter spacers so there is no chatter when it is bouncing up and down...but it is normal to hear.
