It took about 3 hours to fabricate and is secured by the two mounting bolts which secure the headlight.

Pretty nice. This looks like the BMW version that someone posted a couple months ago.

Gonna polish it or paint it black? Black would look cool.

Very nice. Would be intersted in details on the process and planning behind making this...if you get the chance.

I had originally ordered the Triumph fly screen, but changed my mind for two reasons, firstly, on reflection, it is too large in my opinion and spoils the minimalistic look to the front of the bike, and secondly, the headlamp and clocks do a good job in taking the wind blast over my head at speed.

I did want a small fly screen to partially cover the clocks and some of the wiring. The screen had to be secured using existing mounting points, and it in such a way as to be easily removed in the event I didn't like the look.

The screen was fabricated from 1.5mm thick aluminum, cut to shape and bent to the required curve over the 180 section rear tyre of my Firestorm. This gave me a perfect curve. The screen is mounted on a 18mm x 2.5mm flat alloy bar cut to length, carefully bent around the Thruxton headlamp bezel to form a hoop, and secured using the same fixing bolts as the headlamp. I have mounted the hoop between the headlight bracket and headlight casing. A gap of about 5mm is present between the headlamp casing and hoop. Two alloy brackets were cut to length, bent and twice riveted to the hoop. The screen is secured to each bracket with a single rivet.

I have not painted the screen at the moment, but may paint it black, or silver, (or possibly white, to look like a number board).

Rob, thanks for the details. I really like the minimalist look that you have created. I think that you have achieved something that even most of the commercial parts makers have not captured. Congrats.

For what it is worth, I think it would look great in black.

Cheers,
Jon

Rob,
I like it...looks very 'period' and keeps with the minimalist theme. I agree that the Triumph part is just a bit 'too much'. I have the clear Dart flyscreen which I like, being clear it does not detract from the overall appearance either, and keeps the bugs off the back of the clocks. Your bike would look nice with the polished aluminium inst cups, just put them on my Thrux, very nicely made. I have the same mesh screen over the headlight...fun cleaning the bugs out after a ride, it sure does a nice job of cutting the bees in half!

Go to their website, www.bonnevilleperformance.com ,
then on the selections at the left, click on DASH. They are a little pricey, but when you see how they are made, you'll see why. They appear to be 'carved' from solid T6 aluminium billet. I'm very happy with the ease of installation and fit/finish. Those stock plastic cups are really crapola.
