I always thought that it would be cool to build a cafe-type bike using the engine from a Suzuki Savage 650. Certainly not as elegant as the Velo or any other classic single, but I think that it would be a very viable prime mover for a project bike of this sort. Air-cooled, 30-35ish horsepower, 4-valve SOHC. I saw one once in a BSA military bike at a bike show in VA.

What do you guys think?

Bear in mind that I'm advocating the use of the engine alone, not the mini-chopper frame or any of the other cycle parts!!

I saw one of these years ago at a bike shop and said to a salesman, boy is that engine in the wrong frame, he said it wasn't the first time he'd heard that comment.

It needs a fish tail exhaust. Also, the gas tank should have "Vellocette" and pin stripes hand painted on it, not some cheap looking badge.

PS: My dad had a Vello when I was growing up, great bike.

PPS: I still say Triumph needs to make a modern/retro liquid cooled 500cc single... kinda like crossing a CRF-450 with a scrambler

:yayyy: Coolness of cool. The oil tank looks like a beer keg. I am wondering if it has duel filler caps.

The Velo looks sweet. If I owned this beauty, i could spend hours just looking at it, daily.
