i have a similar helmet to his (jp).. bought it off on ebay for about $50 shipped. it had the stripe down the middle and star on sides. I wear glasses so goggle is just for show.. hehe. this won't make you look like an egghead like the ones from davida. good price if it's dot approved!

Ok, I was the guy who crapped on these helmets last time someone posted them. IMO they really don't look very safe. Of course I live in a state without any helmet laws, and regularly see kids (ok, young men) riding 150hp sport bikes wearing nothing more then flip flops and shorts, so I guess any helmet is better then none.

There used to be a helmet ad that said "if you have a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet." Now don't get me wrong, my face isn't that pretty, nor is my brain very powerfull, still it the only one I've got.

Anyhoo, you guys can do what ever you want, but Im going to keep wearing my Arai Signet.

Tarmac,
Let's not start another one of these. Riding a motorcycle is not safe, leaving your house isn't safe, taking a shower isn't safe. All of this has been hashed over quite a bit on this forum. Ideally I'd be fully armored every time I ride, and often I am, but sometimes I'd rather assume the additional risk and choose to do what I'm comfortable with at the time.
Please continue to do whatever you feel comfortable with, and allow others to do the same!

I made some Google research on those JP helmets a couple of months ago. People who bought them all seemed to agree that they are not DOT approved, even if the seller says so. I am not saying that this is a fact, it is just other peoples opinions that I have read about on the net

I have my suspicions. DOT approval isn't cheap, from what I understand, but when I look at the JP website, it screams cheap. You can only pay with Paypal, he puts his stuff up on eBay as an alternative selling point, his english is terrible ... anyone with enough money to get their stuff DOT approved is also going to have enough money to get a decent site done up. His site looks like he does the business from his momma's basement.

When I picked up my thrux i didnt have a helmet so I bought the cheapest DOT approved helmet the dealer had on hand just to get home. (It had been years since my last bike so I didn't have any around)

The brand name was Skid Lid. There claim to fame is...

The shorty is the lowest profile DOT Approved motorcycle helmet available.

Its of lower quality and has less padding than the JP.

You may be right about it not being truly DOT but I think it would afford you just as much protection as your average half lid.

Tarmac, that catch phrase is from a Bell Helmet ad from the 1960's and 1970's. This holds true today. Why anyone would not wear a full face helmet is beyond belief. Looking cool is one thing-riding a Brit bike is cool-but wearing a Dixie cup on your head is about as stupid to the bone as it can get.
