Anyone putting down another rider, or any bike, strictly on the basis of appearance, is a poser.
People who truly love bikes and riding can at least tolerate others without disrespect. If there is a valid reason to confront an individual rider based on thier behavior or comments being unfriendly, that's a different matter. If some guy has a Chang-Ning 125 with HD emblems on it, they are asking for trouble in the form of put-downs at the VERY LEAST.
That's my definition, and I'm sticking to it.

LOL - now, THERE is a discussion I am truely growing tired of, along with whether or not to use automotive oil in my bike, or clean my chain with WD-40.... :-D
Hey, I know... let's start up the "wave or not to wave" thread again!?!
These forums were designed EXACTLY for this sort of a conversation. It's the stuff riders think about (and talk about) all the time. If you don't care, you are within your power to go and read another post elsewhere.... :hammer:  Ain't freedom great?

As with every other "Group" I participate in, if you worry about if others think you fit it, you are a poser.
Just do what you enjoy, and let the others worry about what people think.
Oh, and no auto oil, use WD-40. :-D

LOL - right on, Tarmac! This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
"Ever notice how everyone going faster than you is an idiot, and everyone going slower is a moron?!?" - George Carlin
Sort of puts you in a "class by yourself".

I got to thinking the other day 'bout them fools in their wannabe 'outlaw' motorcycle clubs. You know who I'm talking about, got the scowl going on, an attitude, a bunch of idiots riding in angry/LOUD groups.... whatever, more power to 'em.
Fattrat!
I agree. I ride mostly by myself. There are a couple of guys I ride with. They ride BMW's, old British, Modern Japanese, Vintage Ducati's, Laverdas MG's ect. Bikers we are not!! We are Motorcyclist. I (we) do not care what you ride, you just have to keep up and have a good ride. There is no racing the twisties. Some ride fast and hard, Some do not. This all depends on the mood to the individuals and there skills involved. Some riders are very young and with not much skill, 20 to 28 years. Some are very hot, 30 to 40 years. The very skilled guys are 40 to sixty years and above.
Guys just have fun. Being cool is just plain riding on the weekends when you have time in your busy lives.
Steve Du Bose, Gear head & 50 year rider, at large.
Anyone want to chase me on my Commando or v-7 or 250 Dianna on highway 49? :-D :-D :-D

It seems a lot of people have the notion that only HD guys are posers. How 'bout the guy with a bmw r1150 gs adventure with jesse paniers, off road lights and tires, gps loaded with every map made of tibet and not a spec of mud on his inner fender? Or the dude with a ducati 999r. olins front and rear suspension ( race-teched), compression and rebound settings cranked to the max with only an inch wide strip worn to the threads in the center of his michelin race radials? Having said that, I must say that a "poser" has a pre-concieved idea of what a " biker/motorcyclist" is. a poser is filled with VANITY. to quote Websters "The quality or state of being vain; want of substance to satisfy; desire; emptyness; unsubtantialness; unrealness; falsity." and yes thruxtonMI you must ride in the rain to be a real biker. buy an old honda ascot and dont worry about getting it dirty!!

I want to be a non-conformist, just like all my friends.

I don’t know what a ‘real biker’ is. Nor do I care. I do know many different people who affiliate themselves with clubs, gangs, groups, and memberships of all sorts. I appreciate their views and opinions and respect their thoughts, not necessarily agreeing all of the time.
At the end of the day, I am me. I am one guy that happens to enjoy my motorcycle. I enjoy each mile I put on, no matter if I put 10 miles on this week, or a thousand over a weekend. I enjoy my bike if it’s apart on the floor in my 8X8 shed, or all polished up ready for show.
Poser, Biker, Motorcyclist, Rocker, Racer…etc…To me, they aren’t much different than me, in that they enjoy their motorcycle the way they want to.
