Hey All,

I've been flirting with the idea of replacing my rims with some Excels. I've been searching the forums looking for information about the sizes of the STOCK rims, and as a result, I THINK they're 17x3.5 (rear?) and 18x2.5 (front?).

Can anyone verify this for me?

If I wanted to go with a wider rear, what size would I be looking for instead? I confess that I don't want to run a 180 on the back, but a 160 wouldn't be bad. What would be perfect is a rim size that would allow me to mount my brand new 150, but then mount a replacement 160 later on.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Mancha

Hi,

I mounted a 17x4.25 rim (polished) with a 150/70 17 Bridgestone BT45 tire in the rear (you can also use a 160 tire on this rim).
In the front I drive still the original rim (polished) but with a 110/80 18 Bridgestone BT45 tire.

I like this setup very much, the rear wheel looks better now but not to wide (i wanted to keep the vintage look)

That's helpful as well T-up. Thanks.

I was just told that I could have my rims anodized (black or gold) and relaced for $350 for the set. This ain't bad, considering that Excel rims would be pretty darn expensive (I think Dialysis figured $850 in a previous thread). The only advantage to getting Excel rims would be going up a size in back. The advantages to getting the stock ones anodized would be (a) less expense, and (b) less turnaround time.

Um, I'm assuming the stock rims CAN be anodized. They're aluminum, aren't they?

Yes they are aluminum - but do have a clear coating that will have to be removed. JCW

I'd get them powdercoated the color of chain lube and road funk so you don't have to clean them.

That goes for the whole bike.
