Hey All,

So I seem to have fixed my oil leak with an oil filter replacement. That's all good. However, my rear brake has very little stopping power. Assuming this is because of all the oil that coated the rotor and caliper (and everything else from about mid-bike back), I've tried super-cleaning the rotor and caliper with degreaser. It doesn't really seem to be helping though.

So I wonder, are those brake pads toast? Or, alternatively, will they regain force after some of the oil has burned off?

Never had it happen to me but have read that the pads will absorb the oil like a sponge if they get coated with it and will never regain their bite. Safest thing would be to change the pads.

I'd replace the pads too. Cheap insurance at about 32 bucks a set. I just bought some EBC HH for the back last week at the local Yamaha shop. They work really well and compliment the new pretech front set up.JCW

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll be checking for brake pads on the way home from work today.
